A CHINESE man died after internet gaming for three days straight, the Beijing Times reported today. The unnamed man, in his thirties, had not slept, had hardly eaten and had barely moved from his computer when he collapsed and slipped into a coma Monday evening at an internet cafe outside Beijing.
The man, who had reportedly spent more than 10,000 yuan ($1500) on internet gaming over the past month, was rushed to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police removed several computers from the cafe for investigation but have ruled out homicide and were examining specific causes of death.
The incident highlights China's increasing number of internet addicts, which according to researchers has risen to more than 30 million.

Doubt it was Silent Hunter 5,
Silent Hunter 3+GWX3 more likely :D

Seriously though, this is a big problem, gaming can certainly be an addiction to some, as highlighted in this case.

I'd hate to see what an "extreme" version looks like

Years ago I was in a tourney, playing Novalogics Delta Force. I played around 2pm until the next morning, a saturday I had to work. On my way home I was somewhat tired. I remember looking down to get my cup when I rear ended a car...I highly doubt I would've done it had I went to bed the night before.

My only real 'hardcore' gaming moment was when Cataclysm went live, (WOW), i played non-stop (with a few toilet breaks and food) for about 30 hrs, that was enough.
Felt like crap afterwards, slept for a day and a bit.
Power levelling FTW!!!!!

yup, it looks like they all have WoW up on their screen. Apparently, they make decent money selling their "product" to western WoW addicts for "real" cash.

30 hours awake is child play, I used to do 48+ on a regular basis. For various reasons though, including work, gaming, drinking etc.

Three days straight playing Shadowrun on the Genesis. I was a bit knackered after that, to say the least.

The silly things we do when we're young. :haha:

Three days is nothing. On three day weekends when I was a young punk we used to start playing D&D on Friday after work and not stop until Monday evening, late.

Ah them were the days! Of course we ate... a lot. :D
