Who the heck going to buy that stupid and ugly-looking submarine?!

It's not a sub... just a really unhydrodynamically designed glass bottom boat. It doesn't dive.

While it's true that it's not a sub it is way better than just a glass bottomed boat. You're immersed rather than just looking through a window.

Sir with all due respect you just financed that. I'm sure we can get another idiot to buy it. :haha:

For the amount that it's going to cost, I can go get a rebreather, some high end Face masks, and go be even more immersed as a diver. In fact, for the same cost, I bet I could out fit a decent dive boat.
Concept is okay, but execution . I bet they could double the battery life if they added the simplest of streamlining to the 'capsule'.
And from the article, it seems they are aiming it at yacht owners. I don't see a practical, and space saving way of securing it on deck. It's the wrong shape!

That's because it goes in the water, silly  :smug: If you wanted to be dry on deck, why would you buy an upside down boat in the first place?

Submarines are special, not because they can go under water, but because they can come back up.

I think this really sums up the utility of this
Think of it as more akin to snorkeling than scuba diving.
I can see this being used in resorts where there are coral reefs at about 30 feet.
Might actually be better for the reefs if the humans were contained in a cell instead of crapping up the reefs.

Meh... If you want snorkleing but with immersion... then get one of these....

They're usually tethered to a float to about 15-20 ft so A) You can't get compressed and B) The dive master can track you. They probably cost about 1/20th the price of that 'boat'.
I like these things though. Last time I was SCUBA diving off the Bahamas, I would sneak up on these things, and suddenly tap on the window, people would freak out.
And since I'm on a roll, here's some photo's from that dive trip, doing some of the Shark dives. (Stupid airport gate security refused to hand check the film bag, so the scanner DESTROYED most of the film, this is all I got form that dive :( )

Found a VERY short clip of the Dive from one of my dive partners. I just emailed her to see if she had more of the footage. http://img88.imageshack.us/i/no8.mp4/
Ok since that link is BS, I went through the hell that is signing up for youtube, so here is the VERY short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUBHRrp2STw

I'm pretty sure the folks who would buy that thing do not want to actually get wet. That leaves out scuba or snorkeling, even those fancy yellow things.

I'd bet a solar panel array topside would supply all the power that it needs to operate those tiny motors, but I agree about the general design. A two seater would be a much better option, especially with comfy recliners and wet bar. Needs more external lights as well.

Super-stealth sub powered by fuel cell
Eckernfoerde, Germany (CNN) -- It is almost totally silent, radiates virtually no heat and is constructed entirely from non-magnetic metals.
Meet the U212A -- an ultra-advanced non-nuclear sub developed by German naval shipyard Howaldtswerke Deutsche Werft (http://www.hdw.de/en/class-212a.html), who claim it to be "the peak of German submarine technology."
And few would argue. The super-stealth vessel is the first of its kind to be powered by a revolutionary hydrogen fuel cell that lets it cruise the deep blue without giving off noise or exhaust heat.
That's important, because according to Bernd Arjes, a captain in the German Navy, silence keeps submariners alive.
"We operate in coastal waters around Europe and this submarine is specially designed for finding submarines. If you want to find other submarines of course you have to be quiet," he said.
With this latest technology, he added, "the boat is virtually undetectable."
Looks comfortable for an escape pod. But the one on the Alfa was more practical...
I note that there are no women in your picture. Personally I prefer my Barbara Bach flotation device... :yep:

I assume there is a compartment with some Norwegian lend-lease latex girls.
Bonus points if you recognize the reference...

OK, out of curiosity, I googled that.... Now.... even after googling that line, I'm pretty sure obscure hipsters call this reference pretty *******ing obscure.
Dhaulagiri 8.172 metres. La muntanya de les tempestes (1981)? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449222/)

The movie was called 72 meters... (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401089/) :03:
Warrant officer Mikhailov: It's like this... We have been sent from Norway, as a lend-lease aid, you know, a batch of latex girls. You know, inflated rubber girls... It is strong latex. 3 mm, the average size.
Chernenko: For what?
Warrant officer Mikhailov: Not for what, but for whom. For the captain and for the [first] mate. But keep it underthe hat, since the batch is small. The crew somehow manages, but these guys...
Chernenko: Are you kidding?
Warrant officer Mikhailov: Not at all. They've no you-know-what for 6 months on end. So you have to receive them.
Chernenko: Where shall I receive them?
Warrant officer Mikhailov: At the storage facility. I'll show you the way.
****
Chernenko: Good afternoon, comrade captain!
Captain Yanychar: Same to you. So, have you been debriefed already?
Chernenko: Yes, but there is a little predicament.
Captain Yanychar: What predicament?
Chernenko: Women...
Captain Yanychar: What women?
Chernenko: From Norway. Lend-leased latex girls. For you and for the mate. [The XO shakes his head] They say they've run out of them.
[Mikhailov smiles]
Captain Yanychar [to the crew]: Well, my dear busters, Won't I pepper your asses!

72 Meters was based on a book by Alexander Pokrovsky (http://rusnavy.com/publications/fiction/pokrovsky/subs/) so maybe that Spanish movie is based on it as well.
I assume there is a compartment with some Norwegian lend-lease latex girls.
This is why they lost the cold war. :yep:
