View Full Version : Name Change
Still a newbie with a couple of questions:
1. Is there a way to change the names of your crew, a mod that you can go into and do this?
I think it would be fun to make my brothers part of my crew.
2. On the navigation map (F-5) what do the black/red lines mean. I thought they indicated that a ship was near,
red for a warship and black for a cargo ship. How do I get to the ship, do I just follow the line?
Thanks Gus

Get SH3 Commander to be able to change crew names - and sooooo much more!
I can't remember the colours off the top of my head, but it does indicate, roughly, the direction of the ships (red - enemy, green - neutral, blue - friendly, the little black stubby bit is you - IIRC) from either the crew on deck or the sound guy.
I’m going to try and download SH3 Commander. Just two questions;
Do I download it into my SH3 folder?
And could someone provide me with a link to the download?
Thanks Gus

Theres a button at the top of this scren that says downloads. Try in there (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php)
And in the mods section (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=195) there is a SHC thread, stickied none the less, try reading the FAQ section in there.
If you don't find the mod your looking for (easily) in the downloads go to the mods workshop forum and do a search for the mod in just that forum; it'll pop out some false positives but the thread with the download will usually be one of the first 5 or 10.
This thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170090): http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170090 is a good one to go through. It's got lots of good screenshots of various mods, guis, and other goodies. There are a lot of great mods out there (most of which you can see in that thread) but take it slowly. Adding on a dozen (new) mods all at once can cause problems which are hard to trace when you activate so many changes at once. A good number of mods require other mods as depencies and have to be installed in a specific order to get them to work correctly. Happy hunting :arrgh!:

And no, it doesn't go in the SH3 folder. It's an external tool that goes into Program Files (it'll put itself there during setup) and creates an icon on your desktop. It will do all the work for you. Read the User Guide and ask lots of questions here. Where Commander's concerned, I love to answer them. :sunny:
Ok, SH3 Commander is all installed and what a difference in makes.
I now have a crew of family members and of course, I’m 1st Lt. :arrgh!:
One question, when I exit SH3, a dialogue box opens and asks if I want
to “Rollback SH3”. I have not done so but is it something I should be doing and if not how do I stop the dialogue box from popping up?

The "rollback" means that (if you say you want it) any changes Commander made to the game's files when it launched SH3 for you will be undone until you launch it again via Commander.
It's almost always the safest thing to do, especially if you are likely to make changes to the game in between sessions by enabling or disabling some mods or manually tinkering with the files.
You can also select "Auto Rollback" in Commander's options, and it will do it automatically every time you exit the game without the popup asking you about it.
