Well, first patrol on Sailfish out of Manila. Leave the harbor and run into a large convoy, at work tOday I read the wiki on Sailfish and I think historically I am engaging the same convoy that the Sailfish encountered on their first patrol.

Good luck with that convoy, hope you will uphold the good name of the Sailfish. :yeah:

Those DD can be pretty tough for that early in the war. Best give them a wide berth. They have sunk me on more than one occasion.

Well ao far I got a large modern freighter and crippled a large tanker, the escorts have been ineffective so far. I want to finish off the tanker then hit the light cruiser.

Totally different question; what ships have depth charges? There are a lot of minesweepers, but it doesn't sound like they are dropping charges.

Depends more on mods, but as far as I know all escorts and DD's carry some. Minesweepers in the game, with RSRD anyway have a rear roll off. Escorts tend to carry more racks and charges than DD's.

The escorts in stock are poor players. I'm not sure if minelayers even have sonar in stock. They will only drop if they have contact with you.

It didn't take too long for the IJN to realize that their DDs didn't carry enough depth charges. After adding more to the number of DCs they carried, they began adding new ways to deploy them as well as designing new or retrofitting other vessels with them. Early in the war, I'm not so sure you'd run into too many (if any) minesweepers carrying them.

Yeah, I am running RSRD & RFB so I guess the sweepers are dangerous too.

In the stock game, all DD's of course and Cruisers. There is a sub-chaser that you'll run across from time to time as an escort or guarding ports. They're tricky but not as big a threat as the DD's. Historically, I think most warships were capable of dropping cans. By the way, you'll notice that a couple of the DD types have torpedo launchers. Maybe it's the cruisers as well,... I've never run across anyone getting torpedoed yet. Maybe someone will pop in with a story about getting fish fired at them from the enemy but I've not heard of this yet.

Whoa, cruisers have rails? So that light cruiser could be throwing cans?

Cruisers don't carry depth charges.

IDK about SH4, but in SHCE, light cruisers did have DC's. Escorting the bigger ships was part of their duty. Most IJN ships had torpedos; they considered them an important weapon system. I'm talking about DD, CL, CA, and some BB. The older ones I think. There is no AI mechanism to fire torps at you though.
