Very nice article! I love it when someone bothers to give the complete history, or as complete as you can give in a short article.
Thanks for the link.

You're welcome Steve! It's rare indeed to have good articles on history. The entire complexity of the battle of Truk, is more than a simple magazine article can cover, but when they touch on the important stuff, and piece it together well, it makes for a good read.

Nice article, thank you Hylander. On my current patrol I am sitting outside the southwest entrance trying to decide to go in. It sounds pretty formiable in there and does not make my decision any easier.

I can speak from experience running RSRD, but Truk security is pretty much a joke. Just be careful, but I raided the warship anchorage 3 times on 3 different patrols and left without a scratch all 3 times. I even had time to reload all my tubes and find other targets. Plus the small subchasers that are patrolling are pretty much useless against you if you go in on the surface.

Do you just blast them with the deck gun? Or ignore their fire?

Well their max speed is 11 knots, yours is 20. The speed advantage gives you the decision of engagement, plus your deck gun really hurts them quite a bit from a longer range.

I thought I knew a lot about Truk lagoon, until I read the article. I knew almost nothing of the pre WWI history and wasn't aware of the USN surface actions there. Great, informative article. Thanks for the link.

How 'bout RFB + TMO + S-18 boat? :D:D only advantage you'll have is that the scrap metal from your boat will be cheaper than the enemy's :D though it's most likely not recommended to go to Truk with S-boat.. I'll give it a go :D :yeah:

It would be nice to see Truk represented in the game authentically. Make it so that you reall, really have to want to mix it up with the IJN if you sally too close to their Naval Fortress at Truk.
I think the coral reefs and underwater obstructions would need to be modelled for this though.

Oh, I never tried anything with an S boat.
