Hi everyone.

Does anybody know what the actual player ranking structure is and what is required to achieve those ranks?

After searching google, some people say the highest rank is Captain, others say the highest rank is Lieutenant Sr. Iv heard it mentioned that you gain promotions with the more renown you achieve, however nobody seems to be dead certain.

Don't know about stock but GWX follows the historically accurate KM ranks:

Leutnant zur See
Oberleutnant zur See
Kapitänleutnant
Korvettenkapitän
Fregattenkapitän
Kapitän zur See
Kommodore
Konteradmiral
Vizeadmiral
Admiral

and so on. Altho I'm sure the number of ranks in the game is limited, so I don't think you can get promoted all the way as high as Admiral altho I know some players have done modding in this area. No one with the rank of Admiral would be out at sea commanding a frontboot anyway.

And yes you do get promoted based on your "score" in the game, i.e. based on renown. IIRC it's even possible to get demoted again if you spend some of your renown on new crew and equipment and it drops below the required level for your rank.

For specific info on the requirements, you can open your game's basic.cfg file and scroll down until you find the sections that apply to player renown, ranks, medals, etc.

Wonder if not Kapitänleutnant is the highest, if you do not make changes yourself, :hmmm:

If you ammend some of the config files you can extend your rank structure up to Vizeadmiral. If you're playing straight GWX the changes you need to make are simple cut and paste, if you're using SHC you still use the same data but need to add extra variables so that SHC will recognize them. This thread has the info on how to modify the config files to add the extended/higher ranks:

Using GWX3.0 I have 'adjusted' my file to allow the highest player rank of Kapitan zur See @ line 174 and a renown score of 29999
