According to the Feb 2011 edition of "Still Serving" which is the retiree news letter, on page 7 there is an article on the new USAF motto.

Aim High Fly-Fight-Win. :shifty:

Dunno what to think about this. :shifty:

I would have preferred something about Air Superiority or Global Response or the like.

Aim High Fly-Fight-Win.

Wadda yall think?

That's a stupid motto. Fly Fight Win?:-? Who would be proud of saying that? Who would say that to begin with? Who do they pay to come up with this stuff? That's almost as bad as "Army of One".

Honestly, I think they'd do better if their motto was just "Air Superiority". It rolls off the tongue nicely and has a nice ring to it if shouted properly.
That's just a benchmark, though. Give me a few hours and I'll come up with some good ideas.

Sounds like the chorus to a college football fight song.

That it does - and that is its purpose. Who is the target demographic? College age kids....

The USCG and USMC have the best mottoes in the US Military IMHO.

Mainly because they are still in Latin like they should be.

I think the Navy's motto is also in Latin.

I thought the air force motto was: "Fly planes, Get laid"

A very lousy motto. Too much new age.
Bring back the cold war era motto "Peace is our profession" backed by thousands of nuclear warheads. :woot:

I thought it was "Less Aircraft than the Navy" or maybe "Can't Hold Ground". :D

Fly Fight Win - that pretty much sums up what airforcing is about, or not? Just that Aim High preamble is not needed and somewhat messes up the spartanic charm of the line.

As promised, I've come up with a few mottos.

Air Force - Ever Upwards

Air Force - Battlefield Ascendancy

Air Force - A Higher Calling

Air Force - Strength from Above

I know, those aren't the best, but they have to be better than fly-fight-win. That's just pure sink-flounder-fail. Imo, "Aim High" wasn't a bad motto, but it lent itself too readily to derision as a reference to drug use and the inability of Air Force personnel to shoot.

Does anyone else have any serious ideas?

Air Force: Atleast out football team doesn't suck.:haha:

"Above All" was a good motto, they were using that not to long ago.

What about:

Air Force - Air, Space, Cyberspace.

That's true. 9-3 is pretty respectable, even if they are in the lowly Mountain West Conference.

Not bad as a recruiting motto. Actually, it's pretty good. I'd put that on the cover of recruiting pamhplets. However, it doesn't seem like the kind of thing one would say in the course of conversation. I'd like to find something as successful as "Semper Fi" or "The Few, The Proud".

I believe, out of all of the Services, their football team is the best.

Air Force, football, Air Force Academy - chain of thought.

Why are the Army and Navy Acadamies referred to by their locations, and the Air Force's by its title. You might go to 'The Military Acadamy', but more likely is 'West Point'. You you might go to 'The Naval Acadamy', but more likely is 'Annapolis'. You do go to the 'Air Force Academy'. Nobody goes to 'Colorado Springs'.

It's because the meaning behind "Colorado" Springs brings to mind unpleasant reminders of the nature of the genetalia of Air Force personnel.

As much as the new motto sux, maybe they should borrow one from an old Army attack regiment I served with:

The Force Above the Best

Nice little double meaning there when ya think about it.....

Typical AF identity crises BS. Considering half, maybe even over half of the AF has nothing to do with planes, this isn't just stupid, it smacks of McPeak stupid.

edit: Problem with the AF is the powers that be insist on abandoning all things traditional. The only tradition the AF has, is change, and LOTS of it. Individual units within the AF can sometimes retain a sense of time honored tradition (See Red Horse), but the branch as a whole does not. That has be one of my biggest beefs with the Air Force as a branch, because I place a high value on tradition.

I always thought it was short sighted to give the Air Force their own branch. It sort of made sense post WW2 with the belief that wars would be fought with nuclear weapons only and that the infantryman was obsolete, but long term they should have remained a part of the Army.

Ok... lets try this out......

Lets match this motto:
Aim High Fly-Fight-Win.

With how the AF I know really is:
