I think FM Interiors is a wonderful mod first of all and a lot of credit goes to the people who did the modeling and I love the features and engine. However, the sound of the engine is obnoxious and I used the "new sound" udi files in the 1.07 version and it didn't change a thing. I deleted the sound file from the mod itself when I installed it, still same obnoxious Bulldozer engine sound -_-* There has got to be a way to enjoy FM interiors keeping your default sounds before u installed it right??? Why can't i just use the modeling and animations -.-
Its driving me nuts!!:damn:

What other mods are you using? If they include an .sdl file that has been modified for compatibility with New Interiors, you may be getting the engine sound from that mod even though you deleted the file from New Interiors.

There's a stickied thread for it in the Mods Workshop Forum, links are in the first post.

Current Mods:
WAC 4.1
Wac Menu Fix
Wac x16k Atmos
Das Boot Sound
GWX Sounds (mod I compiled from GWX sounds)
Spirit of Machines
TorpedoTubesFireFinal
No Jawhol
Ultimate Aircraft Soundmod
Whenever I install new interior that sound is there!!
Why can't I just get rid of the disel engine sounds they do. The
cfg of New Interiors must be messing with the sounds playing the
exterior disel sounds arghhhhh so frusterating!!:damn:

Are you getting the horrible "jet engine" type sound effect, when you switch between the different stations?
That's a common problem, the solution is either to edit the Sh3.sdl file that comes with New Interiors (setting the Doppler effect to 0 for the diesel engine sound worked for me) or not use it at all. For that you'd just have to delete the Sound folder from the mod before enabling it and that would do away with the modified .sdl file that it uses so that the one already in your game wouldn't be overwritten by it.
If you deleted the Sh3.sdl file that was in the New Interiors mod before enabling it, though, I'm at a loss as to why the crazy engine effects are still there. But I don't play WAC at all so I'm completely unfamiliar with most of your other mods.

Yes, exactly what I am getting, your saying use the sdh file it comes with install it then delete it? I'll try that I guess, I wish I could get it working!!! Do you know the CFG edit? And how can I do this, I try editing them in notepad its all encrypted do I need another program?

No, don't install it and delete it.
Delete the file from the mod before you enable it. That way the .sdl file (which contains the settings for the engine sounds) that you already had and were happy with will not be overwritten with the one from New Interiors.
I assume you are using JSGME. If you still have New Interiors enabled, open JSGME and disable it. This should restore the game's .sdl file to whatever it was before you added New Interiors.
Now go to your game folder and open it. Open the MODS subfolder. Find the folder for the New Interiors mod - should be obvious from the folder's name. Open that folder. Open the data folder.
In the MODS\FM_NewInterior_V1.0\data folder is a Sound folder. Delete that folder and leave everything else the way it is. You may have to open the Sound folder and delete the Sh3.sdl file that's in it first, but whatever. Delete that file and the Sound folder.
Now you should be able to enable New Interiors using JSGME and the changes that it would normally make to the game's sound will be absent, because the file that would make them is no longer part of the mod.
Mind you, this should all be done when you are in base. I don't know what happens if you try enabling/disabling it in the middle of a patrol.
The only way that shouldn't work, as far as I can see, is if you've made other changes to the game files that would prevent JSGME from restoring the .sdl file you had prior to ever enabling New Interiors in the first place.
The .sdl file in New Interiors can also be edited to remove the Doppler effect that apparently causes the distortion, that's what I did. I also turned the volume down on the engines a bit. It's not a perfect solution in that it also removes some of the 3D effect of the engine sounds, but I wouldn't be able to use the mod otherwise, so it's an acceptable tradeoff for me. Editing the file requires the Silent 3ditor program, if you want to give that a try we can also walk you through that. It's not a CFG file that causes the distortion so you can't open something in Notepad and fix it. You would need to download and install Silent 3ditor first, tp be able to open and edit the right file, but it's doable. If I can figure it out, anybody can. :D

Ok I'm downloading the SHeditor right now, lets see if we can get it working from there. I deleted the sound folder and file form the mod before enabling it, I don't know what the problem is... so on to plan b!:hmmm:

I have to be out most of the rest of the evening but IIRC there are instructions for what to look for and edit in the mod's Sh3.sdl file somewhere in the New Interiors thread, the one that's stickied in the Mods Workshop Forum.
It's a lot to plow through just for that info, but it's there cuz I'm sure that's where I found it.
Let us know how it goes, if I get back in here later and you're still working on it I can maybe open the file and tell you exactly what to look for and edit.
It's only one entry in the .sdl file that has to be changed, so it's not difficult, you just have to know exactly which one and what to change.
Good luck!

When you get Silent 3ditor up and running, open the Sh3.sdl file in it. There are a ton of entries (on the left), but scroll about 3/4 of the way down and look for one called:
DD_Engine.DieselEX
Click on it once to highlight it, and you'll see its settings in the window on the right.
Change the one for "Doppler factor:" to 0 (zero).
If you like, you can also reduce the one for "Volume:" but I don't think that's necessary to get rid of the "jet engine" distortion problem. I set mine to 75.0 which is a little on the low side at cruising speed but plenty loud enough for me running full or flank. At cruising speed, anyway, it doesn't drown out the Gramophone. :D
But if you change the Volume level and don't like it once you get the game loaded up with the mod enabled, you can always disable the mod and tweak it a bit when you're back in base and then enable it again until you're happy with it.

Thanks to Frau Kaleun and her directions I found the FM interiors mod but Iwas disappointed. It is only for the VIIC type and I am a great fan of the IXB-C types.
Is there any such mod for the IX types?

The same modder had something in the works but I don't think there's been any news on it lately:
