Yea unfortunate, that this nation has always had a double standard in my lifetime. All men are created equal unless your a minority then you get preferential treatment, wait what?

I am so tired of all the double talk, that something said is only offensive based on the color of who is saying it. I was raised to see that race doesn't exist, That our differences are only skin deep. That we are all equal. Now the same groups that promoted that ideal are the ones who are creating a social backlash against it with their race based school quotas and their affirmative action programs that say that race doesn't exist and to say it does is racist, now we are going to be handing out scholarships and jobs based on race. Nobody should be held back in this great nation yet at the same time nobody should be put at the front of the line either based on religion, Race, sexual preference. Well, he's certainly tactless and doesn't really know what he's talking about, but he has something resembling a point.

What he means to say is that he's notcied the fact that "Americanized" people work fewer hours for more pay and expect more out of life. That's just a natural result of a higher standard of living, of course. Most Hispanic families that have been here for a generation or two are just as "lazy" as blacks and whites. That's a negative, Hap. Even if everyone was held to the same standard, we'd still never have racial equality because different races are, in fact, different. The cultures they create are also different. Those cultures create sub-cultures that differ still further, and below it all is the overriding biological human need to form social groups that are distinguishable from others. If everyone on the planet were magically transformed into members of a perfectly homogenous race/culture structure overnight, they'd balkanize along any lines they could find and be at each others' throats within a generation, save where united by a common enemy (real or imagined). That's not just human nature, it's the nature of every gene in every organism on the planet. /disagreement

I think that what harms us most is not the obvious lack of equality, whether along lines of race or gender or creed or whatever, but the reckless pursuit of it. In calling attention to the situation of one group or another, you've just put them into an identifiable group, which is about as good as fashioning them into a target.

One of the reasons I'm such an ardent capitalist is because money treats all people equally. It doesn't care who you are or what you look like, it only demands an acceptable return. Money from nations around the world flocks to the shores of other countries, even some that are suspect or hostile. Workers in dirt-poor countries that have been stigmatized in just about every way possible (China) are given a chance at a better life and are earning one through their own efforts. That's about as equal as anything is ever going to get.

There is a disparity here that I think your missing. While the same standard won't BE racial equality, you can't have racial equality by using different standards. It is a key component of the entire equation.

We have many of the same thoughts on this subject, but as you said, the key word is "should". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I know what you mean by racial equality, Hap. You mean the same thing I mean; the playing field should be level, but there's nothing we could do about the way the grass grows or how the wind is blowing or who's on the team.

If that's the case, we have very little to disagree upon. I just tend to jump on the term "equality" because it is so often interpreted to mean "equality of outcome".

I think it has little to do with race, more economics. Certainly racism is at the core of many issues that lock people into lower lifestyles and non skilled labor, but it's more about money. If someone can do it as good cheaper, then that's what people care about.

I was a Sr Project Manager for a large paint contractor for 20 years. When I first went to work for the company, we had over 200 employees, 90% white, few blacks and other races. We had large buildings and offices in 3 states and two small planes to travel. We paid a decent wage, had great benefits, etc.. We followed all laws, paid thousands to dispose of left over haz. waste monthly, followed lead laws..safety, etc.

Slowly illegals took over, wages declined as the pro's fought to compete. Over the last 15 years I've seen the largest 8 in house paint contractors shut down, most in business since the 20's. First they dropped wages, then benefits, made every cut, but no way to compete against illegal labor. The few whites in business today have no employees, they sub it all out to a legal mexican that works nothing but illegals.

Now large builders use illegals in mass. To be in this business and make a dime you dispose of your waste by throwing it on the ground, maybe 10% dispose legally, that means 100,000's of gals a year of strong chemicals get dumped in yards, dumpters, down sinks, toilets, etc. (paint thinner, epoxy thinner, MEK, alcohol) Then drop benefits and work illegals as cheap as you can, no safety laws, ect. A once professional trade went down the toilet.

Do they work hard, have skills, sure. Most whites won't work for the wage now, no benefits, etc.. but all these skilled trades once worked well, paid well with benefits to Americans and they got the job done, painting, framing, bricklayers....the wage is almost the same now as it was 15 years ago.

In our richest neighborhood, full of white GOP members you'll hear them talk about illegals ruining the nation, why at the same time they're using them doing painting, yardwork, building on, you name it. This neighborhood looks like lil mexico in the morning with all the illegals showing up for work.
You'll find very few whites. We have to follow laws, pay taxes, insurance. If we break the laws, we pay hefty fines, the illegals go hide and can't be found.

In the upper trades, illegals can't break in due to license status or education. It's really nothing but class warfare, americans taking advantage of illegals over paying for legal americans to do the job.

Just imagine if we allowed illegals to have this effect on skilled and professional trades...No, that class would solve illegal immigration in a week...Illegal Lawyers, Doctors, ect., Mexico has plenty that would work here illegally if they could. It's nothing but class warfare, the rich getting cheap labor and denying a decent wage and benefits as they have to legal americans.

Americans were squeezed out of trade jobs because jackwagons started hiring illeagals so they could cut costs. ALong with that came the IT revolution. I remember in the past, i forget when exactly, but I was told by a professor that Blue collar jobs are going away. Well, yeah, they have. What hasn't been automated or shipped overseas, was domestically outsourced to Mexican nationals.

Illegal immigration is often sold as a victimless crime but really there are a multiple of victims. The immigrants themselves are actually victims in that they do backbreaking work for low under the table pay which in turn drives wages for that field into the dirt and the only winner is the corporate class that saves $$$ for what amounts to slavery.

Its a lose lose situation and its far exceeded its time to put an end to it.
