I have encountered a problem, I used to run SH3 on an XP machine but have been away for some years from sub sims. I now have a Vista PC (32bit home premium) and an ATI Radeon HD5770 card.
When I install SH3 it runs through the intro and to the home screen and I can select all the options. However once I go to say the naval acamedy or the museum the screen only displays the 2d elements e.g. in the museum all the lower half of the screen is fine but the display at the top where the 3d object should display is just black screen - the sound does work by the way.
Same on Naval academy when I select through to start the training all the side buttons fly out as normal the lower half of the screen is all there but any 3d elements e.g. the control room, the bridge are all black and no 3d part is displayed.
I have tried various compatability modes and got the latest Radeon Drivers but I am absolutely stumped. I also have SH4 and SH5 and they are working fine - you may ask why I would want SH3 but I loved the GWX mods and want a big nostalagia trip.
