hi,
my radar operator keeps givin me radar contacts at long range with a bearing. each time i go look nothin is ever on the scope.
im usin RFB and my career is in july 43. at first i thought it might be air contacts but the air search scope doesnt seem to provide bearing info so im fairly certain is naval contacts that are being reported.
ive not played sh4 in ages so its prob something really obvious but its got me scratchin my head. the only other mod that could be affecting this is the show air contacts mod but im sure that doesnt affect what shows on the scope.
what gives?

Air contacts no doubt, the scope shows surface contacts only.

I've experienced a problem where the contact was off the PPI scope, but did show up on the A-scope. A possibility.

There is no air search scope. Both radar displays are linked to the surface search set. Air contacts get reported and display on the map if you have contacts on. SH4 does not distinguish between radar contacts, so air and surface are both reported the same way. While the bearing was not available on the actual SD radar, we do get it in game.

No, that mod does not affect the scopes at all.

I'm using TMO and RSRD. All air contacts are announced with a bearing. As I currently don't have surface search radar it's the only radar contacts I'm getting. My normal SOP is to go to the bridge and use my binos to check along the announced bearing (I don't use map contacts on for aircraft). If I don't see an aircraft then I know I have a little time before needing to dive. If I see an aircraft then it's an automatic crashdive.
The two scopes do NOT show air contacts, only surface contacts. The right hand scope shows bearing while the left hand scope shows range. These scopes do NOT work until you actually install the SJ radar while you are docked at base. The station is displayed regardless which causes some confusion if you're new to the game.
Note: if you do have surface search radar and you get contacts but no sonar contact it's more than likely sampans.

You're probably heading for the air contacts, which you should avoid since they relay your position to the convoys / task forces back and the convoys then change course, your best bet is to dive and stay down till intercept, +/- 3 hours to expected pip, surface to 10 meters, open the radar and scan around. Listen slowly to the hydrophone. Your hydrophone operator cant detect afar as your ears would.
Just a thought, yea? Cheers.
