I tried the demo of The Hunter a few days ago and my opinion .... well .... great game.
Very nice graphics ,you really think youīre out in the woods and challenging.
I became from guest (free) to member ( the paid version) in 1 day.
Itīs not a shooter but you actually have to track down your prey and that can take some time, specially when you do missions.
Donīt make to much noise, stay out of the wind and keep out of sight.
All your kill records, bullets fired and hits/ misses are kept on their website, so internet connection is ....... :rotfl2:

few shots,

Been subscribing since it started. :yep:

Don't think I've actually played in over a year though.

* just fell in love with the sights and sounds of the forests in the game. Absolutely gorgeous and very atmospheric. Uploaded a few vids at the time, here's the 2 that are in HD, should give a good impression of the game:

Wow... the environment looks... :o

I mean, for a computer game that's quite the feat in my book. :yep:

How powerful a rig you need to run that with full options? No doubt this little thing I run would fall very short of the low-end specs.

I had it on high with 4x anti-aliasing, 1280x960 resolution. Was a little choppy at times, like low 20s, but it's not much of a problem in a hunting game.

Think it was a C2D@ 2.66GHz, 2GB DDR2 and a 8800GTS 512.

So basically, I'd say at least a 8800GT to really enjoy it.

Thanks Arc. Some day soon I can afford to build a dedicated gaming rig again.

I run it on a P i5 750, Nvidia gts 240 on 1920x 1080.
All on high detail except shadows which are on medium detail and that gives me from 29 to 37 fps.

Last hunt went bad , I need a whitetail male deer and got very close to make a clean kill ...... I spooked him off and lost track grrrrr

enough female deer but bucks, well not that much

Hunt time 1 hour and 41 minutes and still having fun :DL

btw nice vids Arc  and what Iīve read there is a lot changed in the last year.

Yeah, when I popped on the site a while ago to renew my subscription, I noticed as much. Really need to get back there. :hmmm:

What was it for a year? $45,-? Still think that's a good price for something that recieves continous development. Definetly lot less than the 15,- a month for something like WoW.

Yeah, like it too. I started playing this summer. But lost interest in it because tracking is quite simplistic. Finding clues like hoof-prints and noises is too easy. They are automatically located with the handheld device, eventhough you wouldn't be able to see it or hear it's exact location in real life. Those Bucks are quite sensitive and easy to spook though, so that made me get back into it. Making the actual approach/ sneeking up. I'm not sure if I'm going to be a member one day. But the demo account is definately priceworthy.

Lost plenty of trails in my time in those woods. Maybe they made it a little easier. :hmmm:

Tracking is not easy, specially over longer distances.
Easy to lose trail.

The enviroment graphics ROCK on this game. Just started messing around with it, probably the best hunting game out.

Needs transportation though, and multiplayer.

Multiplayer is in the works and I agree on transportation.
A ATV or a horse would not be misplaced, maps are pretty big and a half hour walk to my favorite spots is not uncommon.
Still love it though, the atmosphere and the graphics are awesome.
And yep, I donīt think you can find a better hunting game than this one.

got 111 hours in the game, which is pretty sick in 3 weeks :rotfl2:

edit: my stats

Yeah thats the thing, the maps are HUGE, and they already have 'two track' roads so a quad or something would be nice.. as the whole jogging thing gets old fast.

The only upside is the map is so DETAILED its about as real as it gets. When I noticed the trees swaying and each individual branch moving in the wind it looked just like when I'm really out in my tree stand I was pretty impressed.

The only thing thus far, and I haven't got that far into it, maybe just hit the two hour mark now, and I think a little over two miles travel, I've seen 20 does and ONE buck... I find it hard to believe in all that deer herd activity One buck is all there is.

The longer you play the better it gets.
Bucks are out there you just need to find them, once you recognize their calls and learn to track it gets easier.
Running around is in general not a good idea, bucks are easily spooked.
I canīt remember if there is a grunt call in the guest package but it does the job to attracts them.

There some good tips on the forum like this one http://forum.thehunter.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22995

But you must have patience, sometimes you can walk around for 20-30 mins and find or hear nothing.
As I said theyīre out there

I hunt in real life so I know what a buck grunt sounds like. But now I've got five hours of gametime in i've seen 64 deer.. according to my stats, and TWO have been bucks. Just seems kinda off to me, but it could be due to the lack of a grunt call and having the 'free' account.

Tried the guest version, wow, it's a jungle out there.

I can hear the hoofs, but I can only see foliage.

Are there more hunting-friendly zones? I'm used to the wiiiiiiiiiide open spaces of Deer Hunter 2005, where it's mostly trees and bushes.

In here, I feel like Schwarzenegger in Predator, hunting an invisible prey that is about to stomp me from behind. Yikes! Mind the ass!

Still, nice enviroment. Needs more guns and ammo and a less ridiculous Sci-Fi tracking tool. In Deer Hunter 2005 we track by ourselves; we see the hoof marks, we see a scratched tree trunk, we see droppings and we hear the calls. No Tricorder. There are stupid skill points to increase the visibility of that stuff though.

Yeah I agree with the stupid sci fi thing... I would rather not.

Other then that the game is Fantastic, on every other level. It can be kind of a jungle out there, but until you get your 'skill points' built up I suggest you stick to the roads, and paths, until you hear, or see deer sign.. then begin tracking, does are fairly easy to stalk and kill. But for some reason they made bucks like SUPER deer that spook extremely easily which is not at all like real life...

many times i've been busted in my stand by the super protective and attentive doe, and not the buck just passing thru.

ANYWAYS.. just stalk and kill build up skill points.. and when you do start going after bucks just remember move slow.. crouch if you have to, try and get into a good postion to go prone and kill them, thats about all you can do unless you buy an account then you can get the buck grunt call...

yet another unrealistic thing, as in the REAL wild bucks respond to doe bleets.. but hey its a game.
