So I recently bought Civ5, but I've later become a bit disillusioned by its many issues, and as I feared I can't run it on the laptop I've got here at school anyhows:O:. So I'm thinking of buying Civ4 Complete, which means Civ4, Warlords (or w/e it's called) and Beyond the Sword. Played it before but never got into it, looking forward to picking it up again. Reading some succession games on the Civfanatics forums, too, lots of exciting tales there:up:.
In my mind I picture a large-ish Archipelago map, or perhaps the world map that comes with the game, as the Vikings, with game speed set to slow. I'll look through Civfanatics for a downloadable longboat, too, you can't have Vikings without their trademark shallow-draft warships. Planning on beelining to the Great Lighthouse, then build a fleet of ships with which to rule the seas, raid poorly defended monasteries, and explore the world.
Anyone still play this?

Buy Civ IV and its two expansion packs, as I did. :yeah:
It's a great game, I've played it a lot a few years ago, although I have moved on. I might play it again, now that you've mentioned it. ;)
I bought the complete pack a couple of months ago after losing my original copy of Civ 4. It's still a great game and well worth playing. Hey, it's Civ; it never stops being a great game!

Always felt both III and 4 were a bit silly sometimes, atmosphere-wise - they could have done with a more serious feeling, in my eyes, though I know I may be the only person in the world to think so:O:.

Definitely worth it! I got the same pack a while ago and with my limited experience on civ 5 both the warlord and beyond the sword expansion for civ 4 are better. Yes I know civ 5 has fancy hexagons and graphics that dont run on laptops but it also has an unfinished feel that just cant compete with the expansion packs for civ 4 :)

Have purchased the "Complete" pack now (Civ4+Warlords+Beyond the Sword+The original Civ), it will be waiting for me when I return to school after the winter break:up:.
Warming up with the demo at the moment, it lets you play for hundred turns with one of four civs on a pre-designed map. Makes me all the more hungry for the full game. Hoping there'll be time to actually play it:O:.

Have been playing CivIII with both expansions installed while I wait for Civ4. This may have been a mistake. It's big fun, but it's such a strange cookie it gives me a headache:-?. Russia has repeatedly invaded me, and when they land troops within my borders for the thousandth time, I declare war on them and my citizens instantly go into heavy war weariness mode and revolt even though I'm fighting a defensive fight entirely within my own borders. The rioters proceed to destroy infrastructure including granaries and harbours that they need to survive. Starvation ensues, killing many.
Then the game announces that Spain and Russia has a military pact to destroy me:o. The same Spain that owns only two cities, one of which is within my empire. The same Spain that exists only thanks to me, since I saved their asses from Russian invasion and gave them a second city to call their own.
This game isn't just weird, it's bizarre in that special way that makes you just sit there in dumbstruck silence wondering how on earth it's even possible. Can't wait for Civ4.
