I wish I could answer that. I've never changed my key assignments around before.

Flag, yes there is a file. I don't know which one it is. If nobody has given the right answer yet, I'm assuming it's not a well known file. Do a search for "decks awash". I remember once somebody mentioning how to change the file. Actually check the newbie guide, button thread, one of the stickies at the top, somebody says how to assign the ; key from snorkel depth to decks awash. That may lead you in the right direction.

EDIT: try this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=380511&postcount=41

SS do you mean this will work? i have in the past only had to press delete and it cleared the interface. i am shortly going back on patrol so i will try this - thanks!

Yes. If it worked for you in the past then you had 'NumLock' on. If 'NumLock' is off the 'Del' key won't work.

Looks like he's having a problem finding his Num Lock key :DL

what does one do if one is a laptop user and has NO delete key with the numberpad built into the function key as my laptop is configured.

Guessing the OP has similar setup to myself.

sorry SS, which is my numlock key. i have a standard key board

@ Jimbuna: sounds like a gentle play on words here...:hmmm::DL

If you have a numberpad on the far right side of the 'board, look at the row of keys above the 7-8-9, or at other rows/columns of keys surrounding the numberpad. The NumLock toggles the numberpad keys between numbers and the other functions/characters shown on them so it's usually close by there.

(I am overly familiar with the NumLock as my job involves a huge amount of data entry which is 90% numbers, hitting the NumLock by accident and turning the numbers "off" in the middle of a long sequence of data I'm typing is one of my little daily frustrations. :DL)

:haha:i cant belive it! i have just looked at my numbers pad and there - top left is a key with the words NUMLOCK clearly visible. i have never seen this key before or been aware of it. thanks frau kaleun and all :sunny: i will investigate next outing !!

:yeah:

I'm pretty sure the way it works for SH3 is that removing the interface overlay from the display is actually tied to the other function of the Del key on the numberpad (which in many cases is a '.' which serves as a decimal point for easier numerical data entry).

The NumLock toggles the function of that key between Del and whatever else it does, and it's the "whatever else" that's tied to the interface on/off command in the game... which gets lost when the NumLock is off and that key functions as Del instead.

Hooking up an external keyboard to the laptop still toggles the on-keyboard numpad. My computer hates me.

I only point out things that I can see myself, on a standard desktop keyboard (well, mine is backlit for night use, but otherwise it's standard). I cannot be held responsible for the vagaries of laptop design, which for me is a foreign language. :O:

What isn't visible in the picture is the Cyrillic conversion table taped below the arrow keys. I can type по-русский (I'm learning, slowly) without having to use some on-screen keyboard.

So I guess you would be doubly confused.
