Hello,

I have tried some of the Camera Mods but what i am looking for is to be able to pan in closer not with the free view but the other view using < or . on the keyboard which stays with the ship outside view,

Can i change a file somewhere in SH3 for this.

Thanks,

Roger.

Try the mouse wheel.

To control the zoom on the exterior view of ships, your sub etc (using the < & > keys) use the up and down arrow keys. With the free view, you can get extra control by holding the Cntrl key (go figure...) while moving the mouse.

If it's really upclose shots of your own boat you want,FM New interiors (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=162631) lets you move the camera around from the bridge, you can get much closer to your own boat than you normally would be able to.

I have New Interiors downloaded but didn;t bother to install it because as far as I could tell, it applied only to the Type-VII.

The Up/Down arrow keys move the camera in and out a bit, as Num7 and Num1 move the camera up and down, but these view controls are restricted to x-amount of movement.

What lines in what file determine these ranges? So when using ship cam, instead of having to 'walk-around' to find a view (that's what the free cam is for), how do we keep the ship cam with its axis on the centre of the ship/boat but allow the up/down keys to move to a greater range?

I've tried searching for this, but I only either find free-cam mods or other camera mods have such woefully inadequate descriptions, I dare not risk trying them.

This has to be an easy fix... Right?

I would say it would be contained within Cameras.dat, which you'll need to open with Silent 3ditor (make backups!!) though don't ask me what node it's under. Most are pretty self explanatory so it shouldn't be too much of a struggle and you never know, you may get the bug like so many before you and come up with a mod of some sort. I hear mods are pretty popular round here.....

:D

Oh and FM's Interior does only add the extra areas on the VII but it also includes the latest OpenHatch mod by Diving Duck that will be applied to all subs. The interiors mod seems to be picky about the systems it will run on though, especially (already) heavily modded installs on 32bit systems due to memory restrictions. If you can run it though, it's a cracking piece of work.

Whoa!

I yoinked a copy of Silent Editor, located and opened the Cameras'dat file and then screamed in horror and ran away to quiver in a dark and quiet corner.

Yes: the nodes themselves are mostly self explanatory but the properties to set and what they mean...

Not a chance in hell, matey! You'd have better luck talking me into doing the washing up for an entire month. This stuff is well out of my realm.

So if some brave soul out there can either offer a hint, tip, pointer or a fixed file, I'd be interested to see if this 'simple' little camera mod can be done.

Rob.
