A question crossed my mind while patrolling for convoys tonight...

Im curious to know how you guys set your patrol patterns.

What i like to do is draw an area of 30 - 50 kms around a known shipping route with the compass tool and set waypoints on the circle. I doubt its the best tactic but it has worked for me so far.

How do you guys setup yours?

Same way - 50 kms around a known shipping route with the compass tool and set zig-zag waypoints on the circle.

you could write an Automation script to do this for you so you don't have to add waypoints all the time. It could even sweep the scope looking for contacts while doing the 'search pattern'. With the commands available in Automation you can do basically whatever you want (to a degree) :yep:

Good ideea! :hmmm:

I will ask Travelly if he cand make an script like ,,No Station Hydrophone zig-zag patrool area(looped)'' and add this to his auto scripts.:D (he is better than me in scripts)

By the way when you have time maybe you will add the commands ,,if'' and ,,else'' in your Automation (we can make better scripts after)!

Best regards!:salute:

I have full intentions of letting Automation define variables and call functions like I've done for the Tutorials. It's just a daunting task that I haven't taken up yet. And yes, VERY interesting things will be possible after I do that :yep:

Add some pics (using map with waypoints) and I can add this to auto scripts. It would use the nav commands like harbour pilot. You could then run the seach option of your choice at the same time.

Running scripts:-

Real nav position fix
No Station Hydrophone (looped) or Search on Patrol (looped)
Search pattern A

Sounds great! But not fully understand (you will add lines related at radium of a search patern or will be search patterns well defined - like in harbour pilot?)

I am waiting impatient your new version of scripts!

Edit this pic to show how the search pattern should look.
