Heyas everyone,

Once I realized that there were a heaping helping of regular posters here in SUBSIM, I also realized that I wasn't going to be able to help myself - I was going to ask the question.

I'll preface it with the fact that I really did look for some way to search through everything to see just how many times the question had been asked.

But in the end, I'll just rely on you all.

I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours playing Harpoon Classic when it came out for my wee little Mac way back when, and I miss it.

Is there any way to revisit my youth now that my Mac's OS is all grown up too?

A. Is it possible to get a working copy of Harpoon Classic for Mac?
B. Can said copy be made to function, or even sorta function, in OSX?

Cheers everyone, it's been great fun lurking around the forums tonight.

Well, your thread made me look for my old favorite, Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic (vers I). Found it at

EDITED BY MODERATOR: NO LINKS TO ABANDONWARE & PIRATE WEBS HERE, PLEASE. HITMAN

They also have a link for Harpoon there. Which appears to be Copyright protected still too :(.

EDIT (gargamel): Whoops! My bad. Didn't realize that was piracy. :(

I started out playing Harpoon Classic on the Mac, too. I do not think that there is currently a Mac version of the game. The current version of Harpoon Classic is the Commanders' Edition.

There is a Harpoon 3 version for the Mac. But it an entirely different game and is not the same as the one you remember as Harpoon Classic.

Thanks everyone.

I keep hoping that with the proliferation of the iPad, companies like Atomic or the makers of Harpoon will see the wisdom of creating 'apps' for a billion users at a buck a pop.

Touch screen technology and my old loves like Harpoon Classic and Close Combat would be bliss. Soon, right?

Cheers.

I found this old link. It doesn't seem to do anything for me, but maybe it is supposed to work for a Mac setup.

Here is a link to a full working demo version of Harpoon Classics for the Macintosh. You can only play the first 6 scenarios but that should give you a good feeling for the game. This is a very long file(1.3megs) so may take a while to download.

Hi mate, we don't truly consider it "piracy" and SUBSIM understands that old games cannot be purchased readily, so they have to be sourced creatively, we just prefer not to link directly to them. So, in cases of abandonware, it's better to suggest Google. Thanks! :salute:
