Really, China? Did you not think that one of the millions of people who have seen Top Gun wouldn't notice that the footage looks too good to be from anything except, say, a movie? Or that the footage was used with hardly any visual alterations? For shame.

Almost as bad, the USAF's IMAX movie I saw at the Air Force Museum in Dayton a couple years ago. It was so cheesy I almost asked for my money back. You'd think with all the cool things the air force can do for real, they wouldn't have to resort to cheap CGI effects.

AS for China, I'd think that they'd just assume since most of their population hasn't seen Top Gun. They also probably didn't think nobody would notice the difference between a Chinese fighter and a F5 (those are right? IF not).

IF the footage is good, why not. I heard that the street shooting scene in HEAT is used by the marines as a textbook retreat under enemy fire

But these communists have a habit of taking movies and showing them to their people that this is actually real. I wonder if they seen star wars :hmmm:

Good movie, good scene. But I wonder if it really is a good idea to take it for real life education. Thats like taking the scene of the bride versus the crazy 88 for sword fighting excercises.

well you know, its not like China's film industry could do any better:

Maybe we should try for "find the things they did right." It'll use less bandwidth for a far shorter list. :rotfl2:

strange, I guess I'm missing something. Where are the mistakes :hmmm:

OK, first pic it looks like they borrowed the weapons from an airsoft club, it's a mismatch of german/american/chineese weapons from cold war/WW2...

And third pic, the wrapping areound the gun prevents from repeating the weapon, its wrapped around the bolt

Pic 1: For starters: Uniforms are not even close. Camo netting. Black boots. Weapons assortment is way off.

Pic 2: Ammo bandoleers are wrong. Top-feeding magazine LMG not in US WW2 arsenal. No rank insignia on anyone's uniform.

Pic 3: Simplest issue - he isn't going to do much good with a plugged barrel on that carbine. Camo pattern not US. Helmet not US.

Well that and all the troops are Asians in US Uniforms with Airborne Patches... :haha:

(Yes I know there was a Japanese-American Division in Europe...)

Shenyang J-5 also called the Shenyang F-5 for export.... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenyang_J-5)

An easy mistake to make for those unfamiliar with aircraft. Jane's Combat Simulations did just that a long time ago...

Well, pretend US uniforms. I don't see an American flag on there anywhere - just some "Shield logo thingie" on the right shoulders.:D

(Yes I know there was a Japanese-American Division in Europe...)

Mr. Miyagi's unit - 442nd Regimental Combat Team. VERY highly decorated unit.

Yeah, I think he misunderstood your comment about the F-5 acting as the fictional MiG-28 in Top Gun.

On the other hand that's an old tradition. In The Hunters they used F-84-Fs as MiG-15s.

My point was that the US F-5 and the Chinese export F-5 could be mistaken by someone who did not know they were two very different aircraft and just assumed that one F-5 was the same as another.

And these guys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Tigers, which is what the pictures are based off of, very poorly if I may add.

Yeah, saw those; I was referring to the actual style and cut of the uniforms as not being American, and reinforcing the idea that the "shield logo thingie" was a "sort of" American-looking, well, shield-logo-thingie, but was located where the flag would have been if it were an American uniform.

Gimme a little credit :)

The best coverage I've seen on this is from the Guardian.

I think the punners will appreciate!
