See it? About 25 air to ground strike silhouettes painted on. Not long before we start seeing aircraft silhouettes painted on there too...

Wouldnt be that hard at all to equip them with some AMRAAMS, slave the seeker head to the nearest AWACs, and have the guy in the AWACS push the fire button.

True, when the aircraft was just a tool and it was the pilot's experience and skill that mattered.

Actually, isn't the majority of commercial aircraft semi-automated already?
I'd think it wouldn't be that hard to automate heavy lifting aircraft over routine routes for military.

That is not going to work with 20+ year old aircraft (AWACS). Also usual ROE is to have visual confirmation and finding something through a straw with 2-3 second delay is a huge limiting factor.

Well against a foe like China armed drones would give us an edge, and of course the drone has its own sensors to get an ID and since its a lot smaller than a manned aircraft it can get closer to a potential enemy fighter with less risk of being detected.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
There is a Russian saying - If grandma had balls, she would be a grandpa.
If this if that... If China didn't have anti-sat tech and if you could get real-time-no-delay image not through a straw. That's too many IFs.

Excuse me Mr. 428 Posts?
I've already said plenty on the subject of ASAT warfare... (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1563284&postcount=13)
Shooting down/hard kill a low altitude recon bird is very different than taking out a GPS or SATCOM bird which are in much higher orbits; Comsats are up at 36,000 km, GPS is slightly lower at 20,000 km, recon birds like to hang out at around 400 km. That extra 30,000 km in alt gives huge space to maneuver.
Plus drones can be controlled line of sight (DASH anyone?), an AWACS type controller aircraft at 30,000 feet could feasibly have LOS RF control of a drone 200 miles away. And one drone at the same altitude could be a rely to others...

I bet it would if they swapped out some of the systems. I would not be surprised if they could have a whole squadron under AWACS control within a few weeks if they wanted.

What does my post count have anything to do with this? What kind of flawed logic is that? Don't be a dushbag. Mkay?
If AWACS is a HVLD assets, which it is, then why is freaking technology from ping-pond era (with no plans to change)? Do you really think that you can stick GCS into already heavily loaded airplane and expect a pilot to use Cband and arrive to a perfect SA required for fighter pilot? Do you really think ATO would allow that kind of ROE?
Educate your self a bit on UAS. Start from FM3-04.15 on unclassified level and then go to a vault if you have the need to know.

I guess Boeing didn't get that memo. They are flight testing the Blk 40/45 E-3s right now with full deployment expected in 2016. (http://www.deagel.com/news/US-Air-Force-E-3-AWACS-Fleet-Enters-Block-4045-Modernization-Program_n000008102.aspx)
Or maybe you have heard of a little plane known as the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye? Back in 2009 (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/news/2009/06/mil-090605-nns01.htm) it did almost exactly what I'm talking about! It detected and tracked a LACM then engaged it with a SM-6 (guided by the E-2D) deployed from a another asset. AEGIS ships are already built to do this and have been from the beginning, why else would the Spruances be equipped to fire SM-2s!
Yea I do know what I'm talking about...

That is about as arrogant and dismissive a post as I've read in some time. Disagree and argue all you want, but don't tell people they don't know what they're talking about, and don't be calling them names (by the way, it's "douchebag"). Insulting people and talking down to them makes your own arguments less believable.
Please tone it down a bit.

Some interesting tidbits for all the doubters of remote controlled A/A out there...
Video of a Dogfight (http://www.radiocontrolairplanevideos.com/dogfight-between-mq-1-predator-drone-and-mig-25-foxbat) between a Iraqi MiG and a USAF Predator armed with Stingers. Unfortunately the Predator lost. Quite possably the first Air to Air with an unmanned combat aircraft.
The DASH drone (http://www.gyrodynehelicopters.com/dash_history.htm) a shipborne ASW heli-drone controlled by a station the size of a kitchen oven plus a radio and rated to carry either torpedoes or nuclear bombs... developed back in 1960... the DASH is still in service as a target drone.
The SSM-N-8 Regulus (http://www.regulus-missile.com/Edwards.html) a nuclear cruise missile capable of being remote flown by ship, submarine or fighter aircraft (yes fighter aircraft) and could even land to abort its mission. Developed in 1955!
Do I need to mention the TACTOM and SLAM-ER, with their man-in-the-loop control system?

Then again it might make them more willing to take care of what needs to be done. It took 10 years to go after AQ and we were only willing to send in troops after they escalated their attacks and killed 3,000 people on US soil.
