Moscow (CNN) -- The explosion that killed at least 31 people Monday at Moscow's busiest airport appears to be an act of terrorism, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on state TV.

What, if any, anti-terrorist activities does Russia participate in?

Chechnya.
Terrible, my thoughts go out to the victims :(
There is however something not mentioned yet which is very disturbing about this attack. I'd been saying for ages that it was only a matter of time before terrorists started targeting crowded airports - crowded in part, of course, thanks to the security lineups and other such measures. While it's happened before in Israel, this is the first time since 9/11 - and I really hope that right conclusions are drawn from this.
Interfax quotes unnamed security sources as saying the head of the suspected bomber has been found: "We have found the head of a man of Arab appearance who is about 30 to 35 years old. He presumably set off the explosive device."
Ugh... yep, here we go again.
Official sources now reporting 45 dead. Unofficial reports from the scene suggest at least 70.
A bizzare detail: it appears that after the explosion, the airport officials ordered the airport to continue operating. Only about 40 minutes after the blast was the whole site ordered to evacuate.

Raw footage from the scene. You will have seen the first part of this in newscasts, but then it continues as the man with the camera goes through the blast area... my god! There are a lot of dead people there.

Yes I concur, and I would not limit it to airports, think what a string of IEDs could do on the LA freeway when its jammed at rush hour, or the entrances to crowded down town office buildings at lunch time.
You have to think what are the soft targets.

I'm surprised in the UK that they haven't hit a crowded supermarket on a saturday by driving 7 and a half ton truck through the front door.
Soft targets indeed. They must have got lax at Domodedovo.
Yeah, those are of course places they could hit as well, but what I was pointing to was the inherent "softness" of airports and the flawed thinking about air security as just something that happens airside. While in this case it was arrivals, not departures that were targeted, it's a scary thought that someone could target a particularly crowded security lineup at an airport. I remember flying through Midway after Christmas - there was probably over 1000 people packed into the hallway connecting the check-in and pick-up area to the terminal via security - I shudder at the thought of something like that being a target.
Meanwhile the Russian officials have stated that the blast was captured on CCTV. Hopefully that will go a long way to figuring out exactly what took place, but so far everyone seems to agree that it was a suicide attack. Some reports quote witnesses reporting that the bomber yelled "I'll kill you all!" before detonating the device, and the damage in the area suggests that the bomb was packed with bolts and other shrapnel and contained 5-7kg of TNT equivalent.
I present condolences to the family of victims and victims. Among them if doesn't say lies television, there are Germans and Italians. Alive the Chechen Republic and Dagestan let will decay, there there live not people.

Apart from FSB and OMON troops inside of Russia, I don't there are any more anti-terrorist troops. Well aside from Spteznaz as well no?
Russia obviously has a big counter-terrorist establishment. Don't confuse FSB (federal security), OMON (interior ministry troops), or Spetsnaz (general term for 'special forces', mostly army) with specialized counter-terrorist units. There are a number of these, and certainly all three (FSB, interior ministry, army) have units and department dedicated to these. Not surprising, considering that although Sept 11th was the biggest terrorist attack in history, a great many more people have died from terrorist attacks in Russia in the last two decades than in the US. There have been numerous attacks with casualties in the hundreds (recall even the theater and school sieges in the past decade).
The problem with Russian security is the problem with the whole country - the bureaucratic and command institutions are inefficient and often corrupt. There are still serious problems with intelligence and its sharing among different agencies. This creates serious gaps that have been exploited, repeatedly, by these terrorists. But in many ways Russia is a weather-vane for terrorism in the western world - what happens there is a very real indicator of what might happen or might even be in the plans for the West.
Austrian traveller Dr Johann Hammerer: "Injured people were lying on trolleys"
A bomb attack at Moscow's Domodedovo airport has killed at least 35 people and injured more than 100 - many of them critically, officials say.Investigators say the explosion, which happened in the arrivals hall, was caused by a suicide bomber.
President Dmitry Medvedev vowed that those behind the attack would be tracked down and punished.
He ordered increased security across Russia's capital, its airports and other transport hubs.
Mr Medvedev also called an emergency meeting with officials and also postponed his planned departure for this week's World Economic Forum at Davos.
The airport - the busiest serving Russia's capital - is 40km (25 miles) south-east of the city centre.
Russian investigators said two Britons were among the dead.
