View Full Version : Italian Scientists Claim (Dubious) Cold Fusion Breakthrough

Italian scientists claim to have successfully developed a cold fusion reactor that produces 12,400 watts of heat power per 400 watts of input. Not only that, but they’ll be commercially available in just three months. Maybe. Cold fusion is a tricky business -- some say a theoretically implausible business -- and exactly zero of the previous claims of successful cold fusion have proven legitimate (remember when North Korea developed cold fusion?). Hypothetically (and broadly) speaking, the process involves fusing two smaller atomic nuclei together into a larger nucleus, a process that releases massive amounts of energy. If harnessed, cold fusion could provide cheap and nearly limitless energy with no radioactive byproduct or massive carbon emissions.

We'll just have to wait and see

But I doubt this is real, because it says ITALIAN scientists. Thats an oxymoron

Do not mean anything negative, but as you say wait and see....

Da Vinci was an italian, maybe every 500 years they produce a genius.

I actually hope that they have what they claim and I'll eat my own words about italians, which is a lot for a Slovenian, since we cant stand them, our neigbours

Notable italian scientists that i can think of from the top of my head:

galileo
da vinci
avogadro
fermi
bernoulli
marconi
venturi

can't think of any notable slovenian, or even balkan, scientists, except ancient greeks, but they don't count since the ancient greek cultural line ceased after it was redesigned as an ottoman satrapy, and the present greece shares only the name.:arrgh!:

well, Vega was slovenian and Tesla was serbian, and then there's Anton Janša, he made beekeeping into a practical science....

yes yes, reneisanse Italy, not only a time and place of great artists and scientists, but also a birthplace of modern economy and banking, the epicenter of all we today call modern and self-evident. But I can afford once in a while to be politically incorect

as can we all ;)

so tesla was serbian, huh? didn't know that. Jansa and Vega, i've never heard of.

But note, not all of those italians are rennaisance. Fermi started the first radioactive chain reaction in the basement of Chicago university in 1942.

Marconi pioneered radio communication around the turn of the 20th century, including first transatlantic transmissions.

So some high tech 'firsts' have been by italians.

and as you suggest, art, literature, banking, finance, as well as architecture, music and food have all been positively improved by italians.

In fact putting aside your humorous Slovenian national chauvinism for a moment, you have to admit that Italy has run a pretty high Civ score by the standards of the world at large

Serbian national born in croatia, they still have an intelectuall conflict over him

Jansa and Vega, i've never heard of.
Jansa is well known in the beekepers and honeymakers trades, outside is little known. Vega is well known in the mathematician circle and a crater on the moon is named after him.

I admit, they had good foundations to build upon, the roman empire. And the reneisanse was (at least when it comes to arts) the rebirth of ancient ideals

The problem is with todays italians, if you are a neighbouring country, is that they come in loud and large obnoxius groups, leave the most garbage behind and are the worst tippers, but lets leave this to a different thread

I will eat my hat if it is true but look at the contraption. If it happens, I hope that your hat is not too large, it is said that you get digestive problems by eating something like that, :O:
