Small problem that is bugging me - I have edited the negative renown in the basic cfg for sinking neutrals to 0, but the file reverts back to -1 each time I close SH3 after playing.
Usings SH3Cmdr and GWX3 +
GWX - 16km Atmosphere
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - No Medals on Crew
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
Water_Stream_for_Uboats_V4
RB's Exhaust Smoke
GWX - Rafael DSK GUI (updated)
GWX_DFa-Flag&Pens_2010
ANZACMICKS WEATHERED TYPE VII
Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg
I don't roll back with SH3 Cdmr, and I can't figure out why I'm having to edit the cfg every time I want to open the game.
Cheers! :salute:
IIRc there's a static settings cfg file in the SH3 Commander directory, settings from this file are always used when you start the game via commander.
Try to change the settings in that cfg or disable it.

The Static Settings.cfg that comes with Commander shouldn't do anything to the renown penalty/reward for sinking ships, it does not change that part if the basic.cfg unless you have manually edited it for that purpose.

Rgr that!
I don't have the game installed atm.I just had some similar problems earlier, and thought this could be the problem.

Hmm this just got a little wierder. I edited the cfg as normal, started SH3 via SH3cmdr and started my patrol (saved prior to leaving port). Paused the game and tab out, checked the cfg and it has reverted back to -1, so it seems my change is being undone as soon as I start running SH3.

This is like asking the TV technician to fix your TV and when he comes to your house, he plugs it in and it is fixed.
Did you save your changes after you edited the file?

hehe I was wondering if someone would ask that :D
Yep, the file was properly saved etc.
You reminded me of a funny old story - http://www.tensionnot.com/jokes/customer_service_jokes/too_stupid_own_computer

Sounds like a rollback type issue with SHC. Do a rollback, then edit it. IF it changes again, Edit the file after SH3 has loaded, see if it sticks. If it does, you may have to do what I do and leave auto rollback unchecked, and just be real careful with your edits.

I'll give that a go aswell. I just made the file read only after the edit and it still didn't stick once I loaded my patrol.... is that even possible?

Tinman764 :
Try this: Edit your basic.cfg file as you wish and save it.
In the SH3commander directory you will find a directory named !BACKUP.
Copy the edited basic.cfg file there overwritting the one already in.
This will solve your problems. With me it works just fine.

Check your mods that you have installed, for some may have changed basic cfg. I got tired of editing all the mods cfg. file:damn: so I created my own and installed last on JSGME:up:
After you saved it, do you get the modified result after you open the file again? (don't start the game or SHC yet)
Perhaps you have Vista or Windows 7 and have SH3 installed into the default location in the Program Files folder. Files there are protected from tampering so the operating system might be the cause of the modification-undoing.

Can I jump in here, too? I've been following this thread because I'm having the same issue. I modified the basic.cfg and the backup version in SH Commander.
But I think something might not be right because my last patrol I sank 4 ships and completed the patrol objective but only received ~800 renown. I modified the first two lines of the patrol renown to give 100 for reaching patrol zone and 400 for completing 24 hours. Completed patrol value left at 0.
So I should have gotten (I think) 500 renown plus the value of the ships at 84% realism: 2x Granville-type, 1x medium cargo, 1x coastal merchant. If the medium cargo is C2 from stock SH3, then that plus coastal should have been about 250 * 84% realism multiplier. The Granville-types are decent tonnage, comparable to the C2, so it seemed off to me.
Thanks!

That actually seems about right to me. had a patrol where I sunk 100k+ (including a BB), and only got about 1500 renown with similar realism rate.
Check the file that has the renown values in it, the GWX renown rates were changed heavily (IIRC), but Steve may know better (He's the tonnage/renown/ship name guy right?).

Next mission sank 10K tons for about 750 (prior was 16k tons for 830) so now I'm thinking WAD also.

Rgr that. Any changes I've made to game files reside in a custom mod that I've created and enabled through JSGME. :yep:
