Primary school children in Bacup, England were terrified during a school assembly when administrators told them World War III was happening and London was being bombed.

Teachers planned the event as an exercise to educate the children about life during wartime scenarios.

In principle a good idea, but elementary school maybe is a bit too young.

On the other hand the demonstrating effect gets lost if everybody can imagine it'S not real.

But in principle I find these kind of excursions okay. I would like to see it being done regarding drug addiction clinics, slaughterhouses, prisons, etc. One experience can make so much more a difference than a thousand wise words.

You only can learn how far you can go when you will the risk of going too far.

I remember when I was in Basic, we had that trick pulled on us.

For those who have never been in the military, when in Basic, the actual real world date becomes unimportant. You are no longer in the Real World. Days of the week and Days of Training are your calender.

We got woken up at about 0300 one morning and were told that our bases in Europe had been attacked. All the military was being mobilized. Our Basic Training was over. Forget your tech school, everyone is going straight into combat. Pack your shi.....uh bags now!

In between crapping our pants and getting our shi....uh bags packed we were wondering WTF! Is this really how it happens :o:o:o

We assembled downstairs along with the rest of the base is seems (thereby giving credibility to what we were being told). We formed up and our Flight leader was asked "What day is it?" He replied "Sir, today is Flight 216's 27th day of Basic Training Sir!" This was actually a pretty normal question to be asked, albeit not at 0320.

The response came back "It is also April 1st. Back to your barracks! Inspection at 0600 ladies!"

And the military wonders why drill instructors are sometimes murdered. :stare:

Ahh the good ole days. Boy they sucked.

Didn't this happen about three years ago at a school here, someone had the idea to tell them that the earth was about to be hit by a large asteroid or something. :hmmm:

:yep:

And the TV and radio "This is a test, this is only a test. Had it been a real emergency you would be directed to a Conelrad station" spots. When I moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1971 they were still having weekly tests of the air-raid siren at the fire station.
