I remember this from way back. Sounds cool.

Conquer the Arctic, Dominate Your Rivals – Naval War: Arctic Circle Officially Announced
New RTS Gives Players Ability to Command Navies, Skirmish in Both Air and Sea
Paradox Interactive and Turbo Tape Games today officially announced Naval War: Arctic Circle. The game is a new maritime RTS that places players at the controls of some of today’s most powerful naval forces, including NATO, the Nordic Alliance, Russia, and the United States. Taking place in the arctic regions of the world, Naval War: Arctic Circle will challenge players as they pass through the world’s deadliest waters vying for dominance and complete control of the arctic seas, allowing commanders to purge enemy forces either above, beneath, or on the ocean surface. Will you be able to reign over the waters?

About Naval War: Arctic Circle:
Naval War: Arctic Circle is a first in a series of Real Time Strategy (RTS) games where the player battle enemy naval and aerial forces questing for power and ultimate world domination. The game play takes place along the Norwegian and British coast, through Iceland and Greenland all the way to the North Americas and the North West Passage. In the Naval War game series the player will, in addition to the game campaigns, be able to play in skirmish, LAN and on-line modes, controlling a selected fraction from the original campaigns. In Arctic Circle, the fractions includes the United States, the Russian federation, the Nordic countries and NATO. Ultimately, Naval War: Arctic Circle tells a story about a power struggle for control of the world’s resources and supply lines in the Polar Regions.

Yeah, just unlocked. Should be a demo as well.
I looked for the demo, but can't seem to find it. Do I need to install Steam just to try the demo?
Anyone have a link for the demo?
Seems to be a very sad "christmas" for me.
I always buy a game on a disc and never downloading it.

Seems the demo is delayed; should be there but Valve seems to have some trouble getting this out the door properly.
So yeah, you do need Steam for it.

Sure thing, I'll add you tonight. We can have a game once I've done a bit of the SP to figure out what the hell is going on :D
Done one or two tutorials... reminds me a lot of Dangerous Waters, but at a strategic level rather than individual unit level. Can't wait for a scenario editor to knock up some sub missions!

New patch went live: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?601255-Patch-1.0.3.3-NOW-LIVE!
They did a fix to let ASM target surfaced subs. That takes care of a complaint I had; don't have to fly in more choppers or aircraft if you couldn't finish it with torpedoes but managed to force it to surface. Also, torpedo decoys are less effective, so hopefully helos are a bit more effective in prosecuting subs in the first place.
Ah, and an editor is definitely coming. Think it was just a "maybe" a while ago. :hmmm:
Good news all around, this one is going places. :yep:

naval war arctic circle, after playing just the demo is a poor mans harpoon.
models are made in a fashion that are arcade and console game like and something only good for iphone or free browser game or at best console.
While i dont have a great computer, 2.4 Dual core that can run arma2 easily,
when playing the game after putting up 1 helo , 1 jet and one p8 it freezes, on 3 occaisions.
To much of a kiddie game. lacks polish, the dangerous waters demo was far superior to this. Just an excuse to make a buck
In direct response to multiple requests from various Naval War: Arctic Circle players for assistance:
Gman45
Is there anyone who is playing this game who has it work seamlessly? Like no lock ups at all, the ability to use time compression at will and have it work properly without causing freezes etc?

Well, I played the demo and finally bought the game on sale. I will agree the ship models are horrible, I don't know if this is a case of the 3d engine being used or if their 3d artist was just incompetent. But I can't agree with you its like console quality, as its not even close. I don't know if you have played Battlestations Pacific or the new Battleship or any console games at all, but the ship models in those games are far superior to most PC games. As far as the freezes and crashes people have been having, I haven't experianced any, and I'm running this on a laptop with a dual-core 2.4 ghz AMD processor and 4G of Ram. My built in Radeon grahics will use a Gig of my Ram to render games and I can run every game I've tried with all the bells and whistles with out any problems, including new games that are just being released. I didn't have any of these issues in the demo or the full game, it runs without any problems on my system. Of course I'm running Win 7 and I have noticed most people having problems, are running XP, I don't know if this is the problem or not. Yes, the game is sub-par in quality visually and game play wise, it is my hope that eventually either the devs will get it together and improve it, or the modding comunity will take over. I don't know how moddable the game is going to be, every ship model in the game needs to be replaced and probably most aircraft as well. Whether this is possible I don't know, and of course only people who are interested in keeping this game alive are going to have any interest in improving it. And, yes, its no Fleet Command or Harpoon, but it can be if people will give it a chance and the modders will get involved. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents worth.
Regards:
Captain Rockwell Torry

The same time compression / lock-up / crash bugs are reported by users with Win7 as well as XP.
I'm a big fan of their HOI series, but arctic circle was very ordinary IMO

Too bad this game had tons of potential and yet it didn't do well. Are there any similar games that offer such authentic weaponry and strategy?
You can try Harpoon. Although Harpoon is also a bug-infested mess, it is sad to say that NWAC makes Harpoon look good in comparison.

Neither Harpoon nor Naval War: Arctic Circle are MMOs.

Demos are available for both versions of the game included within the Harpoon Ultimate bundle in order for you to determine if they are acceptable to you. Some are willing to play the games even in their current state, but many others do not.
