Quick question...

On my current patrol I've followed a hydrophone contact and found out it's a passenger/cargo.

Did real life U-boots attack these kind of ships, or were they left alone?

I just sunk one on my last patrol...was carrying a load of mail!

The quick answer is both. I attack if it's got either a red or white ensign. Anything bar hospital ships and neutrals is fair game.

You never know it could be a Q-ship, but you don't want to risk finding out the hard way!

Can't see any markings or flags since it's dark, but the ship is marked red on my map :)

You can shoot it, but you will find it has an interior made of balsa wood and a cargo of ping-pong balls wrapped in Styrofoam.

You can nail one under the bow in a storm and it will bob happily along another 8-12 hours. Or into the machine works. Or under the stern. Or into the bow. It might sink... or, petulantly, it might not. It doesn't know and it is not about to make up its mind.

I am pretty sure they are some sort of inside GWX developer joke that we will never be let in on, but I can accept that!

Me... I don't bother, anymore. The sloop, the schooner, the trawler and the passenger/cargo.... they get a free pass from me.

They go down fairly easily with a deck gun. Gotta get that balsa wood burning to melt the ping pong balls. I've split one in half before with an eel, and While I did get credit, it never sank.

Well, it trned out a disaster :(

It didn't sink, started zigzagging, but then a medium cargo appeared. Hd only 1 torp loaded but I gave it a go. Didn't sink either. But in the meantime a destroyer and some patrol craft came my way, and I couldn't escape in time...

Oh well, at least I can see my personell file again in my next career (this one was bugged) :D

Next time I'm going to be less risky, though :)

Hit them under the forward mast at 2.5M and they go down in about a hour.:shucks:

Ah yes the fabled Passenger Cargo... Many a torpedo I wasted on these tough little buggers in the past with about a 20% sink rate, not worth the bother IMO. Nowadays I like to imagine that as I line up my periscope on her I see a pretty english girl with plentiful bossoms waving at me from the stern and although I imagine her going down on me I realise that it's in an entirely different context and let her sail on by.

Farewell my sweet....
