so i finally sunk the ark royal for the first time, and after much anticipation of it and seeing how difficult it would be, and me thinking it would probably take a salvo of torpedos.
in the end, it took 1 torpedo hit, and the ship sunk in about 2 minutes on normal time =/ (no time compression at all), VVVVEEERRRYYYY anti-climatic =/
so i've been ordered to sink the hms ark royal, and i manage to find it after 3 days of searching, it's surrounded by i think 7-9 destroyers... but luckily i pick it up on my hydrophone during the onset of a rain storm and manage to sneak into the rink of destroyers as i sailing around trying to find it in the rain i see this shadow looming infront of me suddenly out of the fog directly across my bowi cut engines down to half speed (from emergency speed (over drive)) and turn hard to starboard to try and get in behind it, of course as i turn it continues forward and i lose sight of it in my periscope, but i CAN see it's wake trail, so i get into it's wake trail and gun back to emergency engines so i can try to catch up to it so i'm in it's wake trail and, i still can't see it but i think i have a good idea of where it is, since i'm sailing right behind it, so i fire off 4 torpedos 1 after othe other, while doing a 5 degree turn, (ment to do a salvo but clicked the fire button by mistake instead so i started just hotkeying between the torpedos and firing as fast as possible) the first 2 miss and as i'm in the proccess of switch to the 4th one i hear an explosion and my watch officer yells out "torpedo hit" at almost the exact (maybe 5 seconds after at most)same time it suddenly pops out of the gloom of the rain storm, and i'm like "OH ****! SHIP DIRECTLY INFROnt OF ME!! @.@ emergency reverse!!!! now it's an aircraft carrier aswell, so it's got a flat top deck pretty high off the see right from the time my torpedo hit to the time i seen it... well.. when i seen it the tip of the flat top was touching the water, but the time i had my 4th torpedo preped and ready to fire ( which was like 30 seconds or so coz it was mostly just push of a button and then "fire" ) and yeah... it missed...completely... coz it sailed over the TOP! i was thinking to be a dick and torpedo it's flat top since it appeared to be sinking from the ass backwards so the bow woulda been facing the sky at a good 50+ degree angle as it sinks, so i wanted to torpedo it on it's deck near the bow just #1, to be a dick, and #2 for the fun explosion :D, but mostly coz i'm a dick and mean like that :D the damn thing sunk so fast though =/ and it was entirely anti-climatic because, well.. it's an aircraft carrier, i #1 woulda though it'd take more then 1 torpedo.... and #2, exspected it to stay afloat once it started sinking for longer then a minute >.>;
oh!, and the only mod i'm using is the critical hits mod.
so i must have did an instant critical hit or something with that torpedo, it was INSANE! ^(@.@)^
i'm actually starting to feel kinda bad for the ark royal because it was so puny... it might aswell have been made of tinfoil for how fast it sank, and i've never sunk a ship faster then that, even when using that 88mm on crack mode that makes it a 1 hit kill, the guns still take atleast 2 minutes to sink...
