very nice footage.

I sail quite often, 1 regatta a week plus some additional long distance regattas or just deliveries. I have experienced how wild nature can be. Despite i have never seen a film, photo that comes close to these experiences. I never was able to film it, although we often assumed to do so. When the time comes and the **** hit the fence, there is no time for taking pictures.

Turnover-test of a new German sea rescue vessel.

The rescue cruisers of all classes of the DGzRS (German Maritime Search and Rescue Service) have been built from beginning on with this capability. Different to the German Coastguard, the service is not maintained by the state , and I think it lives by donations exclusively. It has around 50 bases and a fleet of around 60 so-called Rettungskreuzer, operating in the Baltic and North Sea. Some types of these cruiser designs set new benchmarks at time of their service entry, being copied by others. I know one man having served on these. Very special people.

As far as I can say, yes. Even the dhingies the cruisers have aboard, can turn over 360°. Which may not be that surprising. What amazes me is that the cruisers themselves can do that.

Sorry for the term "cruiser". But that's what we call them: maritime rescue-cruisers (Seenotrettungskreuzer).

I always wanted to start crewing on bigger boats, I crewed and skipped FJ's (12 ft single mast, 3 sail), and I signed up to crew on a J30 something, but then I moved to WV and became a white water raft guide for the summer instead. :D

And that pic, is a group of people unsuccessfully shooting rapids. I can't tell if that's an oar boat, or just a regular raft. The guide's paddle/oar, and I only see one, must be perfectly level to the camera, so I think it's a regular raft. If you notice, the guide, who is usually seated on the stern, is flying through the air, about to pass over the paying customers who will get a good laugh out of it, and then tip the guide even more later.

It's called a guide ejector. It's when you take the boat down over a hydraulic, and into another one, but you snub the nose of the boat into it, causing it to fold up momentarily, kinda like a fish flipping its fin. This causes the guide to go flying.

While enjoyable to watch, trust me, as the guide, they're embarrassing. Usually the guide(s) that got ejected each day had to buy a round for the other guides. But like I said, the guests/sheep usually made up for it with a bigger tip at the end of the run.
