Silent Hunter 3 CTD

Hi,

I used to play Silent Hunter 3 earlier ( i think it was on a Nvidia Display Card).

Have changed the card to an ATI HD 3450 AGP 512. I am not sure if the card is an issue as now the game crashes after the loading screen (send / don't send MS window) in the window it says Modman: Unknown.

Kindly help me with the above. Taking a break from flight training.

:salute: you have the correct driver when you switched to a new video card, and I assume that you run with GWX3 and have patched it right!?

I am using Catalyst 10.5 drivers. Nope i have still not downloaded GWX 3.0.

I am using GWX 2.0 atm.

It is a reformatted system. i thinking of putting back the Nvidia 5500 and check.

I am using GWX 2.0 atm. can not answer the Catalyst 10.5, is right for your graphics card, in some cases, the version before, be better, would not you want to test GWX3? then it is much sharper in the realism a predecessor, and you will not regret it, in so in this case, a clean install of SH3 and and, clean the registry, and then remove all the SH3 folder from my documents,and patch it before install, and here's a link if you intend to download it,

Firstly, Welcome Aboard :salute:

Right then, what are the rest of your system specs?

Was it only the graphics card you've changed, and did it run fine before? (With/without GWX2.0)

Is your new card much better than your old one - does it need more from your PSU?

Have you deleted the previous graphics card's drivers?

And finally, for now, what OS are you using? If it's 32-bit XP I think you need Catalyst 10.12 not 10.5 (but I could be wrong, does any other game work?)

Well actually yes it was only the GFX card that i changed. But earlier i had never installed the creative sound card which i am currently using. It was the Nvidia card earlier and it did run Gwx 2.0 pretty well.

The ATI HD 3450 is good for HD movies and vids. Was using this card for my flight training (FS9). The system has been reformatted so its fresh.

Quite a few games work fine on my system except the one's which require a dual core n above.

OS is XP SP2.
Catalyst 10.12 i think has a few issues.

10.12 is the latest set of drivers for your card. It may have issues but it will be better than 10.5 for you.

Aye aye, will download it and check it. Hope it works as i love silent hunter and my flight simulations.

But would the display cause an error like "Modman: Unkown" ?

Don't know, never seen that, and can find no trace of it on this site or any other (apart from some other forum from 2004!). But definately 10.5 is not for your card - although it may appear to work on the surface it's really designed for the newer PCI-e cards and OS.

Just tried playing Call Of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare (Which needs a dual core processor)

And to tell you it works smooth on my rig. But i am still going to upgrade the drivers first and check.

Where did you get GWX 2.0 and when?
Only time I have seen Modman is when infected with BackWebLite.
It's a dll file used by it.

Well if it can be due to a virus then i had reformat my rig.

Do a Google search for
Modman: unknown

It will give you a page where you can download a few tools that may fix the issue without a reformat.

Well there was typo actually it is "Modname: Unkown" and not "Modman: Unknown"

I recommend removing SHIII plus any mods, in the profile stuff in your My Docs folder (I think?), and run a registry cleaner - I use Piriform's CCleaner just fine and it's free. Reinstall SHIII and latest patch, try running the game and if successful install GWX3. :yep:

Well even after installing gwx 3.0 i still get CTD with Modname :Unkown.

I have a second system which is a P4 2.8 ghz using a Nvidia 5500 gfx card i think i will try it on that else i will have get of the sea and take back to the skies (which i love and will be a PPL holder soon).

I reinstalled SH3 on a different rig and then i installed GWX 3.0 now it is coming up with an error "Modname : sh3.exe" and goes back to the desktop.

This error comes after the loading bar is 100%.

Ok, have you installed latest SH3 patch? GWX needs to be on fresh install up to 1.4b.

When/where did you acquire SH3? Most recent releases, including downloads currently for sale online, are already fully patched to v1.4; if your game is one of those you don't need to patch it.

Don't remember the shop as it was quite a long time ago. But i have used GWX 2.0 without any issues.

Got a friend in Adelaide who was in STAR Force, which is acceptable. It's SA's tactical police group and he loved it jumping out of helicopters and shootin' stuff. Never one to settle in a job though he's now training to be commercial pilot! :doh:

None of the patches also install. SH3 without gwx works fine. Now i am at a loss.

GWX had worked earlier around a year back then i stopped simming, now back to simming but without GWX.

I installed it on a fresh system.
