Im having an awful time figuring out to play this sim ... and Ive been a big fan of SH 3 and 4.
I have a few really basic questions just to get me started:
-- How do you "lock" on to a ship you want to sink. A little icon on the periscope says lock or unlock ... no mstter which I click on, the ship still goes out of view.

-- Is there a key that sets the course towards whatever youre looking at in the periscope?

-- Is there a key that re-centres the subs rudder?

Thats is for now. Sorry to seem stupid but I find the "manual" to be useless.

Thanks

If you press F1 in game, you'll get a diagram of the whole keyboard, with all keys clearly explained. Then you may also press Shift, because some keys have two states: with and without Shift.
