Hi everyone, I'd like some advice on what mods to install. I checked http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=1286049#post1286049
but there's so many of them!! I don't care that much for super realism, I mostly want the mods that will fix the game and remove the major annoyances. With all the mods I'm kinda scared that they won't all work together and I'll get weird bugs.

I'd probably give TDW's Magnum Opus a whirl: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=176123

I'll start with that, from what I understand JSGME is kinda required?

I don't think it's required, but it certainly makes things a lot easier. Plus, if you don't like the mod, JSGME makes it a one click process to remove it.

Trust me, You want JSGME. It's free, and it does everything you can do (and a little more), and it do it WAY quicker than you ever could! And it's super simple to use!

can you tell us a little more of what you want the game to do ( or not do) and some idea of what sort of player you are, are you more interested in hoping on for a while and making things go boom. are you the type of person who likes to do all the math and sit and wait for the exact moment to strike and send a bunch of ships to the bottom, cause what mods you use is determined a lot by play style. and there is nothing wrong with one style or the other. the reason I say this is that a mod I might find essential may do something that you don't care about at all. so let us know what annoys you about the stock game and we can go from there. hope to hear from ya soon and welcome to the world of silent hunter 5. the un cut diamond in the rough of wwII sub games.

Well I played SH4 stock (patched) and enjoyed it a lot (manual targetting, really enjoyed drawing on the map to find ships). The only reason I waited so long for SH5 is I was told it was very buggy. So I guess I'm looking for something close to the stock SH4 game.

you should go with what mookiemookie is Saying

There is an options file that allows you change to any style SH3/4/5:up:

Hi,

I've just started playing this sim (i was holding out till the Magnum_Opus mod was released), having being a SH3/4 vet, SH5 does take a bit of getting used to, but this beta patch has made the game very acceptable, and of course the graphics are superb.

I would recommend doing as i've done and starting with this mod as your core game, then adding from there if you feel necessary!

did you try my GFO mod for sh4?

its very much what you describe your looking for in sh5 so you should like it for sh4

hopefully someone will do a simular game fix only mod for sh5 game

so far DarkWraith has been doing many core game fixes with the AI and UI for the game and i know they are trying to do a mega mod for sh5 but i dont know how much non fixes are going to be in it to suit certain player tastes. hopefully its balances to be vanilla enough to make everyone happy.

Ok, I just got SH5 as well and from what I gather you guys would recommend the Magnum Opus mod?

To clarify, so far I played SH4 with TMO, although I still use auto targeting. So I'd look for mods that give me something similiar to SH4+TMO. I do enjoy to blow up things, but I like to think a bit before and after I do so - planning the approach, trying to escape etc.

Also, are there any mods changing the interface to be more like SH4?

The IRAI part of MO will definitely challenge you. I doubt you'll be able to escape though if the escorts or an HK group gets a hold of you (that's with difficulty settings at 1.0). You'll probably want to tone down the difficulty of IRAI to around 0.8 to 0.85.

As TMO did, MO combines a lot of smaller mods, plus it also uses DarkWraith's awesome UI Mod ( User Interface ) and also his mod that greatly improves AI in the game ( IRAI Mod ).

By the way, welcome to SUBSIM :yep::up:

Ok, another question: As MO is still beta, how stable is it? I skimmed through the thread there and found quite some complaints about CTDs etc. Obviously to be expected, but well...

So would I be better of using some of the mods included in MO on their own?

If so: So far I found the Better UI Mod, the IRAI Mod, the Mighty Fine Crew Mod and the Reduced Mission Tonnage that would interest me. Are there any others I could/should get?
