Inside the U-Boat are hatches and doors incuding the exit to the bridge.....is there any reason for closing them, or are they just there for effect??

Thanks

I've only just started playing SH5, so im still sussing it out....for instance, if i leave the conning tower hatch open before diving and im the last man on the bridge, does it fill with water?

Also if before entering battle and getting hit, if i've closed all the doors inside, will it restrict flooding?

And, i order to dive but remain on the bridge, do i teleport inside the boat??

Unless you are using DarkWraith's UI Mod, you do not teleport on a crash drive or diving in general. His mod had an option for this, stock does not. It requires you to close the Conning Tower Hatch.

As far as the other doors\hatches, sadly this does not matter regarding flooding.

SH5 unmodded will not let you dive, unless you are inside the boat. If you are inside and order a dive the conning tower hatch will automatically close.

No, it won't make a difference. Each room is independent, with or without open hatches.

TDW's UI MOD has an option for that

Ta,

Im using TDW Mega-MOd. so i guess i can order a dive while on the bridge.

I like to close the engine room door when I'm running full speed. Otherwise it get's pretty loud especially when charging batteries. But I have the U-Boat propulsion SFX mod.

Good point, shutting individual doors does effect sound. I do the same re: the engine room.

D'oh! That never occurred to me. Time to start closing some doors. :D

Yea, closing the engine room door, i worked out while still leaving port for the first time!, also, if you leave the conning tower hatch open at night, and go external view, place your camera just over the conning tower when the U-boat passes, and you can see right down into the red lit conning tower....i like little details like this!!

I wounder though if it was possible in RL. Where was the air intake for the diesel?

Yes it was possible, the air intakes are at the rear part left and right of the forward part of the bridge, ending at the fore end of the "Wintergarten" railings, and flush with the casing of the bridge (as high as possible without using a snorkel). In the VIIa they may be deeper. In SH3 and 4 OMEGU with U-boat add-on you can see the grids covering those intakes on the VIIb to c, and IXDs very well.
In very rough sea conditions even the intakes would be temporarily blocked by seawater, the Diesels then sucking air out of the boat, with some bad effect on the crew. A U-boat would have usually dived in those conditions.

Catfish

Good picture....though a little far away, i like to see it about 15m above and off to the side, where you can see the inside of the room pan across as the U-boat goes past.

Anyway, you get the picture!

Small addition:
After a long dive and accordingly bad air the bulkheads would all be opened, since the Diesels were then able to suck in the air through the main hatch and the whole boat, thus venting the boat through much faster - this is being described in several books ..

Would be great if the sim modeled details like leaving the conning tower hatch open at night aided enemy visability of you...and shuting the compartment doors restricted flooding eh!

I actually think it's retarded having the hatches and doors there, fully functional, and NOT program that functionality in. It's so obvious..
