Hi
I want to hear what you use your time when you just sailing and waiting for Radio contakt to a target and life in the submarine gets too boring? I write this for example while I wait I find a target. Although I know that game probably is paused. Otherwise I spend time to clean up. And sleep at night while I let the game running (yep I'm single) is also like to my laptop and doing 3D. But thought it might be fun to hear what you are doing when you wait. :DL

I go about my business around the house. I will also read a book or browse the SubSim forums or grade papers. When home, I usually have a submarine simulation running.

I go through a protocol that involves cruising along on the surface (with a little TC) and then diving every couple of hours to take sonar readings for a few minutes. Then it's up to periscope depth, a quick check for aircraft or enemy ships, and then surface and cruise. It keeps me occupied and, every now and again, we come across a juicy target. :arrgh!:

While cruising in safe waters, such as the Kiel Canal, I switch on the radio, or phonograph, and listen to some vintage music and news broadcasts. Nice. :yeah:

Where and how do you find radio, or phonograph in SH5 ?

I edited the following key commands in the commands.cfg under data/cfg folder.

[Cmd561]
Name=Toggle_Activate_UserRadio
Contexts=1
Key0=0x58,s,"X"

[Cmd562]
Name=Toggle_Activate_Gramophone
Contexts=1
Key0=0x58,,"X"

Then I got use of the radio and gramophone with the X and Shift+X key, but now I use the new UI mod (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1811)that has them added to the hud. I prefer the key commands but the UI mod took that away. Don't know how to get it back.

I use a wonderful mod from Athlonic called More Commands by Dialog. It adds a lot more commands to the various officers in the boat. I can tell the radioman to put on the phonograph.

For the radio, I use another mod, the name of which I cannot remember exactly (I'm at work right now). It's something like Grosserdeutscherrundfunk or something like that. It is a large collection of vintage radio and news broadcasts in German and it assigns a keyboard key to bring up the radio controls. If you're interested, I can get the exact information and send it to you.

Happy hunting and listening! :salute:

I usually have a bunch of books that I switch off reading. I used to do homework when I was taking classes to pass the time. Worst came to worst, I would use my laptop to surf the internet and post on here

The official name of the mod with the huge collection of vintage German news broadcasts and music is Grossdeutscher Rundfunk.

I usually listen to music on the gramophone. I filled up my gramophone folder with a collection of WW2 era music and classics. I use a randomizing program to scramble the order of songs before I start SH5. I must say though, I don't like waiting a long time before finding some action so I use time compression. The only time I don't mind waiting a long time is when I am setting up my ambush and preparing to fire.

Once I went to sleep (properly) as I was sailing along, I had the volume up so I could hear any problems. Next thing I know I was under attack by a fighter bomber. It was a strangely realistic expierience.

ppl i dont understand the hole question?????? How the hack is it possible to do anything else besides playing SH5???

Oke, i am a male, and thus cant multy task, but even if i would be able to :haha: Its impossible to to things aside playing the game?

How do you do your home work and:

reduce speeds from half speed to kleine fahrt and dive to 40 meter to do a sound check for 20 minutes, then stop for 5 min, go to half speed, surface and sail for 4 to 6 hours to repeat the hole process. And this, while in at least 1024 time speed and doing home work or reading a book:hmmm:

When i play SH5, i am focused for 100% :o

Reading books, walks trough the sub (breathing in the atmosphere), listening to the gramophone as well. Sleeping with the diesels (well, the computer) running and discovering that could be pretty relaxing. Had a aircraft alarm some nights ago and was brutally awaked with bombshells. Tired as a nut i had to dive (silent running) and went back to bed.

My god i have no life. :)

I find when I am waiting for a contact I tend to drink/smoke while I listen to some music. When I find a contact I'm to busy plotting it's course for anything else

So you guys don't use time compression at all? It's weird because it really takes ages for something to happen in this game. Sometimes i think to myself that maybe later (like when i'm retired) i'll have a lot of time to waste and so i will no longer need time compression :rotfl2:

I've still got lots of time to waste, but thats probably cause I'm a student :DL
