from what I hear yes it is quite good though rather linear.

Oh and you can get the total war grand master collection for ~40$ right now. That includes every total war game from medieval 2 onwards, and all dlc, and some viking game i never heard of. Regular price is ~160$

Kerbal Space Program is also on sale at 40% off

Mkay, so perhaps Tomb Raider...

... For crying out loud. I went into this thinking "I pretty much have everything I'm interested in anyway", but...

Well, Spec Ops: The Line had the press raving about the story line. Not particularly interested in 3rd person shooters, but if there's this deep underlying narrative, that might just be worth it.

Stardrive, very promising but not quite finished. Can't complain for the price it's going at.

Again a fair bit of raving about fiendish puzzles and such for The Swapper. I do like them puzzles.

Torchlight 2... First one was alright, but this one has MP. Drag some people in there, should be a blast, really.

I'm so screwed. :nope:

*ha, scrub TR. The DLC situation is ridiculous. Package it into a gold edition and put that on sale, I'll part with the moneys then but not like this.

I'd go for the complete collection, I think CO is used for most mods now, and the BAF/PMC DLC is also extensively used.

But I don't play it that often, you may want to hear from a regular player. :D

I have Torchlight 2 I like it a lot it is pretty fun and vastly improves on TL1 it also has a lot of pretty cool mods in Steam Workshop.SynergiesMOD is very cool I have about 66 hours into it after a few months which is pretty good for me as I jump form game to game it might take me over year to actually finish one game in my library.

I also picked up Borderlands 2 yesterday and I like it fairly well you did not mention that so maybe not your thing.

If you like people who behave logically then you should stay away from that game. I'm about half way through and I can't fathom how ridiculous everybody (including Lara) is behaving. Common sense? Forget it!:/\\!!

I won't spoiler here but the whole game is full of cut scenes where I don't know whether I should laugh or cry.:/\\!!

But I'm saying the same about Far Cry 3. So maybe it's just me.

Dark Souls... thoughts? I like the proposition of something that can kick my bottom but it isn't the best port. :hmmm:

I have played it only on Xbox so can't say how well it's ported to PC.

Dark Souls will kick your bottom, hard. It's almost excruciating at times. Well not almost, it is. There were plenty of times when I felt like ripping the controller apart and burning the game. Though, as a disclaimer I must point out that I get frustrated quite easily. So wouldn't recommend it to people who get angry easily due to trying the same thing over and over again as collateral damage will be imminent. But the game might teach some patience, maybe.

On the other hand hardness is what this game is about. The joy of accomplishment is phenomenal after you've beat that big monster which you have been trying to beat for days. Dark Souls challenges the player to think. Every enemy has its weaknesses and player must discover and exploit it. There is no hand-holding, player has to find out things by himself. Or by reading the messages which other players (you included) are able to leave on the ground, which is a nice touch. You can also invite players to your world to help beat the bosses. One thing lacking is proper co-operation. Sure you can try to invite your friends to your game but it doesn't mean they will always find your game and are able to join. Me and my friend never were able to play together (though apparently that has been tweaked in recent patches). That is intentional but it would have been quite nice to even play the whole game with your friend.

Combat is well done and rewarding. Which of course is a good thing as the whole game is based upon combat. If I had to compare it to something, I'd say Batman Arkham Asylum/City's combat system is somewhere on the same lines.

The general atmosphere in the game is somewhat peculiar, eerie even. Partially because the world doesn't really explain itself, the interpretation is once again left to the player. But at the same time atmosphere manages to be peaceful and relaxing. You are all alone save for the ghosts of other players which you can see from time to time, or the fiery letters of messages other players have left in the world or bloodstains which indicates that another player had died there, or the few eccentric NPCs which are scattered around the world.

I haven't completed the game and I don't think that is even necessary for the complete enjoyment. It's all about the journey not the destination.

Prepare to die and may the bonfires guide you in the dark.

@RedOctober,

I'd do a little research before you buy, I just done a search for HOI3 on disc and the collection on disc included semperfii and for the motherland expansions, the steam version called complete collection includes these plus the 2012 expansion there finest hour and many other dlc's.
I dont know much about the game myself as I havn't played it so maybe someone who has can let us know if the expansions and dlc's are worth it.

Actually it is a clever marketing strategy. They know that most people are going to buy a few games on sale that they really want and then each publisher some games in their library will be at or maybe 10% or 5% below normal and many people will buy that game as well. You can easily wind up buying over $100.00 in games if you are not careful.

Kind of like car dealers they know that you are spending money so when they offer extra things 80% of buyers will also take extra stuff as well.

I wish Steam would do something that GoG does.At GoG for the games that are part of a series they will have a list of the other related games and you can buy all of them for a discounted price.Thing is lets say you just want two of the games well you can just buy those two out of the series and you still get a discount. You just have to put the entire list in your cart and then close out the titles that you do not want and keep the ones you do.

Very nice if you want to try out or revisit a game series you played in the past but you are not sure if you want them all or not.

Steam is so huge though I doubt that they will do that or something like the Blue chips that Gamers Gate gives you.

most of the games have been on sale in the last 6 months for similar prices. I was hoping that the stalker series would come again as I got screwed out of the sale the last time it came up thanks to steam randomly deciding to refuse purchases from me and not fixing it until the day after the sale ended (and telling me tough luck). There are some I am potentially interested in, but they are either not on sale for low enough (i generally only pick up 66%+ off sales) or the base game is too expensive. I don't buy new releases any more and won't touch DLC until it is seriously reduced.

I am considering picking up the Super House of Dead Ninjas: True Ninja Pack DLC, Legacy of Kain Collection, and Prototype I (but not 2). But rather slim pickings all in all.

It is not a game to be taken seriously so if you expect that you'll be disappointed. It is just a goofy shooter with some RPG elements with lots of silly one liners. For example there are these robots that walk around doing work and every so often over the intercom an announcement says:

"Puppies,a crying child, loneliness if any of these made you feel any emotion at at all please report to your supervisor for immediate deactivation." That is only one example there are hundreds of funny lines in the game. Also it makes fun of rednecks, large corporations stuff like that.

I like it but I also usually do fairly extensive research about a game before I buy it Google is your friend especially game play videos put them on mute to ignore the idiot talking when they are the type in love with their own voice and observe what you see.

This video gives a good example of the level of seriousness the game has if you do not like what you see I'd avoid it this a one of those love it/hate it type games. That guy is playing as the assassin one of 5 character types.the other person is playing as a siren the game plays just fine in single player and then you do not have to share loot.

The flash sale is a bit of gimmick really it serves to have people come buy to see if the game they want is on sale most likely it will not be and the customers patience will fail and they will buy the game they want and others anyway.

Funny I can only think of one industry that sells something but never seems to need to have sales. It would not take rocket science to guess what that industry is it is a very old profession.

Ive been hoping that the STALKER series will come up at 75% off again, I almost had it a few months ago but of course steam screwed up the transaction and made me talk to tech support, which only answered after the sale was over and pretty much told me too bad.

I'm going to buy GTA anyway whether it's on a Flash or not. But, I like to make my money as effective as possible. If they get 75% off, I can get some other things on my wishlist for a truly happy holiday. :)

Stalker Clear Sky is on there....but it's 5$... Half off. Not a bad deal...but I'd rather spend my 5$ elsewhere when I haven't even finished SoC yet.

Well me I'll wait till it is back to the price it was that other time. I am certainly not paying 33% off 19.99 for the other two. I generally don't buy new, and will wait for 75% off or more.

Also with GTA its too bad, you could have picked up the entire series for like 18$ dollars during the summer sale (the package was like 90% off or something).

I would go with Mass Effect of those three.

If you get ME1 you can carry that character all the way through to ME3.

I did that once took awhile though.ME3 got bad reviews from some but I thought it was not too shabby I purchased it after they had released the more clear ending extra information though.

Of all three ME1 is the best for me at least it has the most hooking story the other two you are just finding out what happens not bad games just not as impressive as the first.

Of course Orgin sometimes sells the entire trilogy for $19.99.

Did you know?
That Orgin the name of EA's electronic download service was once a separate company which produced several popular games such as the original Wing Commander titles.Later Orgin partnered with EA eventually though EA took over Orgin completely and disbanded them.Orgin had a motto "We Create Worlds" EA also came up with a double secret probation motto which is "We absorb and then destroy other gaming companies" they have a new motto which is "3rd world labor rules underpaid and over worked employees also rule".

Funny thing is EA when it was formed back in 1982 the people that started EA actually wanted to be different than other gaming companies (who are much like how EA is today) of course over the years many of the original founders left EA or where eaten by newer more aggressive staffers.

I doubt that PC gaming will ever die it has been around since what the mid 70's in some form or another. It will have its spikes and falls of course.I fell that indie games are a factor yes but still many of the top selling PC titles are from main stream companies and there are plenty of pretty meh indie games out there.

I only like a game when it actually has something interesting to offer me.I notice that some folks think that every indie is gold just because it is an indie not a logical thought process if you ask me.

Indie games aren't really my thing. They usually aren't too complex or long in my experience.

Papers Please is unique and it's put together well. It's gameplay that you would never think to be fun, but it is.

For the best results of MP you need a bunch of friends, voice (for the laughs), and one of them running it as a server. It's a great game, not the best graphically as it's based on HL2 but gameplay (even basic run around and hit people) trumps prettiness.

Don't know about the SP mode.

I imagine as it's on sale for just a few dollars that the amount of MP servers will increase for a while, or else it takes a little organisation.

Crap on PC, I had extreme performance issues (for no obvious reason) and the controls sometimes had "ghost-input" where the players character automaticall enters/exits cars, opens notepad, puts it away again etc... and I had no joystick or controller connected at that time.
Errors still exist for me. Last time I tried was just ~2 months ago.

Game is pretty cool, yet not on PC in my opinion. A typical bad console-port...

yep, they implemented a 30fps cap, which is a joke for pc users acclimated to 60 fps use. normal human vision can detect up to 60-70 fps in monitors, so again, a joke limitation implemented by idiotic, clueless publishers.

and for what? because they though it would causes glitches to exceed the console 30 fps. you can tell they clearly didn't test this, because someone made a hack to enable 60 fps and it was running smooth as butter without a hitch. no facial glitches, no audio problems.

so in the end, it was all just a bs excuses made up by some imbeciles at rockstar who didn't want to spend one more second on developing a proper pc port.

and did i mention they patched the game expressly to impede the use of the aforementioned hack for none other than ego issues? someone at rockstar must have a small penis.

Hi folks

I see Final Fantasy is mentioned, I have a steam key for FF XIV as part of a bundle from buying one of their processors. It's not my kind of game so going free to a good home, someone that will actually play it and not just let it sit in their collection gathering virtual dust.

PM me, first come first served.

On the topic of Steam Sales, I bought the DCS Hawk today, L.A. Noire, and GRID Autosport.

Then I remembered about the aforementioned bundle courtesy of Intel (bing-bong, bing-bong!) so I checked what games I'd got. CS:GO - yes, I'll download that; FF XIV - nah, I'll give it away; WOT - hmmm, maybe give it another go; Lego Minifigures Online - yes, but they've closed their site as they swap from FTP to buy-to-play so unable to register; GRID Autosport - yes, oh, wait a minute - I just bought this earlier. D'oh!

So I also have GRID Autosport steam key going begging.

Again PM me. Only one game per person, so decide whether you're a racer or a Japanese schoolkid. :D

I think if you add it to your wishlist, you can alerts. I cannot seem to add it to mine, maybe because I bought the game. If it goes on sale for $15.99 again, let me know.

The Steam sales are awesome. Unfortunately there's really nothing that I want to buy this year. Numenera's a while off. Sword Coast Legends was a flop. Already grabbed ArmA III when it was super cheap a month or so back. The rest is AAA garbage. Kind of in a gaming lull. Plus, I've gone to the dark side where it's always high noon.

I grabbed some payday 2 dlc, rocket league, The long Dark, and finally all of Rise of Flight (65$ Canadian for everything, a pretty darn good deal for 40 aircraft, plus channel map, plus all accessories). Been wanting Rise of Flight for the last 4 years.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but Insurgency is less than 5 dollars:

If you like shooters this is a great buy. It plays like CS:GO but is more ambitious in terms of realism. They are releasing a competitive mode soon, so you will be able to play on a ranking system as well.

Picked up Ultimate General Civil War, made by the same folks who brought us Ultimate General Gettysburg. Early access, but no problems to speak of, no ctd's or anything major. They are just tweaking the strengths of units to balance game play. Maps are beautiful, they did one heck of a job putting these together. Can be a handful to handle these larger armies at big battles, but it keeps you focused, lol These are the engagements in the game so far-

Early access edition includes the following battles in the campaign:

Battle of Aquia Creek
Battle of Philippi
1st Battle of Bull Run
Battle of Shiloh
Battle of Gaines' Mill
Battle of Malvern Hill
2nd Battle of Bull Run
Battle of Antietam
+ 10 minor engagements different for each side

The following battles will be added when the game is fully ready in a couple of months:

Battle of Fredericksburg
Battle of Stones River
Battle of Chancellorsville
Battle of Gettysburg
Battle of Chickamauga
Battle of Cold Harbor
Battle of Richmond
Battle of Washington
+ 13 minor engagements different for each side

Looking forward to see it in its final state!

It's a general games discussion. That is a game involving generals. Sounds like a good fit to me! I say no foul.

A tip if your download rate seems limited due to the steam sale. Change the download location in the settings to a timezone that has a local time deep into the night.

Thanks! I've just added it to my library. (I mean, for free ... why not?)

Being a big fan of the industrial rock group Nine Inch Nails, I noticed their music in the trailer. I hope it appears in the game as well.

Graviteam's, "Tank Warfare: Tunisia 1943" is on sale now on Steam.

The main game is 80% off at $7.99, discounted from regular price $39.99.

"Tank Warfare: Longstop Hill" DLC is 80% off at $2.99, regularly $14.99.

"Tank Warfare: Operation Pugilist" DLC is 85% off at $2.24, regularly $14.99.

"Tank Warfare: El Guettar" DLC is 75% off at $3.74, regularly $14.99.

So you can have the whole game with all available DLC for $16.96 instead of the usual cost of $84.96, a savings of $68.00.

This is Graviteam's newest title. If you haven't tried Graviteam's games before, they're hardcore military strategy with the ability to zoom right down onto the battlefield. They come with tutorials, there's a lot more info on the web, plus there's an editor to do things yourself, and mods on the web if you don't feel like playing with the editor. I'd recommend any of their titles, and this is a bargain.

Metro 2033 is free for keepsies on Steam for the next 24 hours:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/43110/Metro_2033/

Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands.

In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age.

The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.
I can highly recommed it!
