Driving to work about 5am this morning on the highway, a deer runs out from the center median right in front of me and I tag him. :o
Hood flies open and I manage to get to the shoulder. Front of the van is smashed pretty good with a lot of fur(no blood though)and steam is pouring out of the radiator
State Patrol shows up 15-20 minutes later and we do paperwork and that fun stuff while waiting on a tow truck.
I got the van towed to a body shop which I have unfortuneately done too much buisness with the last four years. :nope:
Now the fun begins with the insurance company and the auto body shop.
Happy New Year!!!:woot:
:)

Tow truck driver said an officer from the Dept. of Wildlife will come out, skin it, and get the meat for use at shelters and such as long as there is no contamination with motor oil or anything.
I think I'll pass though. Never liked the taste of deer meat. Elk on the other hand.....:03:.

Hear hear! Venison, marinated for 2 to 3 days in red wine, bay leaves, pepper corns, vinegar, garlic, sugar, onions......
can't remember what else my Parents used to put in there, dam it was good though.

While the rest of these clowns salivate over your roadkill, I'm glad you're all right, mate. Rotten way to start the day, for sure.
Pass me some Bambi jerky, will ya?

Particularly bad day for the deer but good to know you came through it alright.
Vehicles can be fixed....sometimes humans can't.

Might as well cook the deer for a hefty dinner. I mean you killed it :DL

Good job you don't live in Australia and go and hit a Kangaroo - would of been a write off after that:doh:

You're lucky you dont live here, it's a traffic violation if you hit a wild animal. Insurance will pay for the damage but the ticket is all yours

Good thing you didn't get injured. Sometimes deers go straight through the wind shield...I don't have to tell you how that usually ends.:dead:
Deer are nothing compared to hitting a Moose.

Bad start to 2011? Yup, Just about burnt down my house Sunday morning when my hot water tank decided to catch on fire. Saved it though.
Deer are nothing compared to hitting a Moose.
Went to College in upstate New York, In the Adirondacks. First weekend there, saw a news story about this.
Guy was driving ot work in the morning. Came around a corner, hit a moose, killed it, totaled the Truck. Wife met him at the hospital, and when he was driving them both home, he came around another corner, hit another moose, killed it, totalled the van.
Total score: $45k in damages, 1200 lbs ( or some other absurdly large amount, its been 15+ years since I saw that) of meat he got to keep.

It was weird-you know how time seems to slow down during an accident-well as I'm about to hit the deer, that very image of the deer coming thru the windshield went thru my mind.
I've heard way too many stories about that very thing happening over the years. Even heard of one surviving the impact and kicking the crap out of the occupants. :o
