would someone with more experience than myself help me out here...?
I purchased tickets online at Fandango.com for True Grit a few days back. Got my confirmation number, went to the theater and waited in line for about 10 minutes.
when i got to the box office i gave them the confirmation number and they gave me the three tickets i ordered.
Now...
Fandango's big deal is "Don't wait in those lines blah blah blah"
but in essence... all i really saved was the 40 seconds it would have taken to give the guy cash and get my change.
so whats all the hype about Fandango? :06:

Some theaters now have ATM like machines where you can buy your tickets without having to stand in line at the ticket booth.
Those machines can also help you save a few bucks if you and your mates happen to be a senor citizen and three children... :O:

Do they have an option to print out your tickets on your home printer? I did that a couple times a while back from another online tix site when friends and I were meeting up for a show that we expected to be pretty crowded. It was, but with the tix already printed out all we had to do was go to the right "gate" and hand them to the ticket taker. No standing in line to buy them or pick them up.
Also there was one theater chain here that had some kind of machine, kinda like an ATM, where you could pick up tickets that you'd already paid for online. You just swiped the card that you'd paid with and it would print them and pop them right out. I hardly ever saw anyone using it, so there was never a line for it.

Didn't they send you a link to print your own tickets? I thought that was the whole point?

no they e mailed me this confirmation number and told me to present the confirmation number at the box office at the theater and be prepared to display the credit card i paid with though it turned out that the confirmation number was all i needed once i got there.
reading into it further, in some cases, fandango only guarantees you will get a ticket - not necessarily that you will avoid lines

Fandango used to be great; you could, as mookie said, print out your tickets and completely skip the lines. Now they want you to jump through hoops once you get to the box office. I understand it is likely that people found a way to duplicate the tickets and cheat the system, but I also think that Fandango remains an option soley for the impulse buyer.

Maybe different theaters have different policies regarding Fandango; a couple of weeks ago we went around to the back of the ticket booth and gave them our printout, and they handed us our tickets. Then again there wasn't much line as it was midnight, but anyway :shifty:
