View Full Version : Respawning carrier?

I was searching for the carrier in the blockade of germany, in the channel and out in the ring it gives, all to no avail. I decided to check the ports to see if it was currently not at see, and instead found the Ark Royal... sunk it to find that it didn't count. I saved while moving away to stop for that day. Today when I load the Ark royal, and her escort are back alive and actively searching the area for me... So the ship is looking for its own killer? Is this a bug or is it simply that sinking in a shallow harbour allows her to be recovered? (albeit instantly...).
Also, as it is now at sea, if I sink the Ark Royal again will it count as a carrier for the mission? Or is it just that specific escort carrier that counts?

I've tended to find that sinking ships in port does not count however if you catch them at sea it suddenly counts for something however I'm no expert and could be wrong, so I guess the best thing to do it try and sink her and see what happens

When I tried I didn't manage it, the carrier turns away before I can reach it from the save... then de-spawns about 10km from the docks.
I really am having trouble with finding the carrier... I have tried searching its area for a full week. I have tried searching the area south of portsmouth for a week. I have tried sitting still, sinking a ship and remaining on station, being spotted by a merchant and waiting, following what I assume to be the carrier's planes back down their course. Even repeatedly sending messages and requests for resupply in the hopes they would be intercepted. I even shot at the plane to make sure it saw me (didnt even alter course). Nothing. I saw it once before but unfortuneately at the time I didnt realise how hard it would be to find again so proceeded with the patrol I was heading towards. For a carrier fleet that's meant to be hunting submarines it seems to do its best to avoid me.
Anyone got any ideas? This is proving incredibly frustrating on what is otherwise a great game.

I found her, south of plymouth... heading south with her 8 stupid escorts who didn't even alter course after I sunk her!
I spent for ever ducking the packs of escorts in that patrol zone, saw a few planes I though could be coming form or going to her but couldnt' find her.. then on may way home (via the channel naturaly ;) ) a just bumped into her...
I think she was going abotu 17 knotts though, so if you haven't bumped up your speed with the crew points, you'll find getting a head of her very hard..
Once I sunk "Nelson", A few hours later in the same area again, I met the "Nelson". I did not come out of the game, it all happened during a gaming session.

Finally found the carrier by following the planes back to their source. What I was doing wrong before is following them directly back, but at the speed both the planes and fleet was traveling I would always miss it. Instead I compared the headings of the outbound planes and the returning planes to get an idea of the direction the carrier was traveling... then corrected further that way (ie the returning planes were about a km further south than they were when outbound, so instead of following them WSW as they were heading I went SW and caught the carrier).
Thankfully I had already piled points onto speed, my ship does 22knots on the surface so was able to overtake the carrier fleet, get in its way, fired 4 torpedos, 3 hit... phew :) Got 2 months to get the AMCs, got 2 already.
