So I'm listening to CNN while messing around on my PC and over and over they kept saying gas prices are expected to rise, expect $5.00 per gallon before the year is up. Nothing more, just that short statement, like a subliminal message preparing us for what is to come.

So whats the deal this time? Nobody buying the hybrids that the big 3 are making and there going to make sure they do?

I have noticed about a 0.20 cent hike in my area already, but I thought it was just for the holiday demand.

Time to get me a another motorcycle I guess...

Supply and demand factors have taken a backseat to commodities futures trading as drivers of gas prices. Crude oil speculation was behind the $140 a barrel oil, and I would say it's what's going to be behind gas price increases this year.

I'll just add, they raised the gas tax here.

Could be worse over here, prices on gasoline in Iran jumped 700% since their government ended some subsidies. The subsidized stuff is still 400% more expensive than it was.

You guys still have cheaper petrol than us in the UK.

With the VAT hike on 4th Janurary coupled with a 2p hike in fuel tax on 1st January it will be getting very expensive.

So much for helping the economy.

What rises in Germany: Gasoline. Heating gas. Heating oil. Electricity. Health insurrance. Property taxes. When the prices on international markets fell due to shrinking industrial demand for oil, the prices for the households went up. When there are vacancies, prices go up. Prices almost never fall. No matter the market situation, they almost never fall, they only go upwards for the end consumer. Savbing the industry earned due to market situation, are not being given to the consumer, this is especially true for electricity and gasoline. The market is totally dysfunctional, much due to monopolism, manipulation, and political protectionism ("tax incomes" and "lobbyism" are the two words to watch out for here).

The more the economy gets into swing, the higher the demand in oil again, the faster the oil price will go through the ceiling again.

" Gas prices expected to rise in 2011 "

Ah well, were they ever expected to fall ? Not in my lifetime .. :O:

Gas prices never reacted to a drop of stocks or larger amounts of resources found, those greedy managers and stock market analysts always raise the price.

One time it was less wells, then it was China buying all crude oil and the last i learned was that the destitute oil industry needed money for investing in modern technologies :woot:

But the best was Exxon. They mixed some seed oils in their Diesel for cheaper production but told nobody. When the government recently demanded the mixing with some 10 percent of those oils, Exxon immediately raised the price because the mixing was so "costly"
Messing around with customers has been raised to an art form :rotfl2:

I have changed the Diesel engine of our old VW Quantum or Passat to run with pure rape seed oil, which is much cheaper (this is not "BioDiesel" b.t.w.), but needs a few injection and pre-glowing adjustments.

Greetings,
Catfish

In my area petrol company's

£1.24 - £1.31 for Unleaded

£1.26 - £1.32 for Diesel

Supermarket pumps

£1.19 - £1.23 for Unleaded

£1.23 - £1.26 for Diesel

I' noticed four hikes in less than three months and that dose not include the 2p hike on its way.

Looks like the typical hype to me. Gas always goes up in the winter because additives are put into the mixture for clearner emissions during the colder months. No mystery there. Demand is higher around the holidays. Gas goes up during the vacation months due to demand. Another hype story by the media. Run for the hills!

Go ahead...don't control the cost of gas and watch the world economy collapse into the abyss that much quicker.

You know, they said the US attacked Iraq for oil
but did the oil price go down after removing saddam?

No and our war bill went up. Go figure. BTW, Iraq said we can go home now. Sounds like a plan to me.

In Stockholm it is around 13.53 crowns for 1 litre petrol
1 Euro is how many crowns??

In Poland: 1,2 Euro for both Diesel and gas at BP (only Shell has higher prices)
The prices have never been so high. Even when the barrel of oil was for 200$. (now they say it's 80$ ?)

IIRC Kuwait were saying the other day that the world could withstand oil prices at over $100 per barrel. At the moment it's sitting at $89 bbl. We've been over $100bbl before, but it's come back down sharpish during the recession. As Skybird says, as the economies recover, growth will slowly return and the demand for oil will continue to increase.
Now, IIRC, our good friends OPEC ( <- Sarcasm) look like they may decide not to increase production in 2011 because there is enough for demand at the moment, which means, inevitably, the price of oil is going to rise and as such, the price at the pumps is going to rise.

With train fares going up over inflation in the UK too and bus fares not far behind, pretty soon it'll be horse and cart time! :damn:

All the Iraq war did was raise oil companies profits.

A government fuel duty increase on New Year's Day will put another 0.76p on to both petrol and diesel. On 4 January, the rise in VAT from 17.5% to 20% will mean yet another price rise.

And with the new digital and property of knowledge company rights you will have to pay constantly for leasing the idea of using a goat to pull your cart :dead:
