View Full Version : Why can't I hit anything?

I'm not on manual targeting, I have not turned on the tdc.. so how come when I click on a target, the torpedo always fires straight down the route my periscope is looking at... it doesn't take the targets speed into account? In the previous silent hunters it did this when manual targeting was not set, infact I'm sure it did this even then! Am I supposed to gaze at nothing through my periscops trying to allign the 1 2 3 on the map I can't look at at in detail while controling the periscope?
if so this also means I have to get very close to each target, and can't set up a bunch of torpedo's for launching at different targets at the same time... or aim to hit different parts of the target... also wher has the target recognition manual gone? I want to know how deep the targets hulls are!
What am I missing or is this part of the lameness of SH5?

Yes

OK heres what to do with if you use no manual TDC:-
Aim at ship.
Press space bar to lock.
Press space bar to unlock.
Select turn tdc on (in xo box)
Press space to lock.
Click on ship type in xo box(tanker etc) this will showRM
press space bar to unlock.
Aim at any part of ship and fire.

I'll try this.. pretty sure my fish will fly straight and miss.. sigh..
Is there a mod that fixes the auto targeting?
well that was nice.. the torp turned 90 degrees and fired off crazy.... though I found the RM... ick...
basically there is no way to get teh Xo or WO to plot a targeting solution for me? it's either "fire on my bearing" (torp goes striaght down los of periscope) or manual targeting?
ok I'm off to look at the tdc tutorials.. before I scream and get very upset... lining up those 1-2-3 is way too close, I'm not even sure the torp would arm...

Follow all 8 steps and it will work:up:

and now i'm at 91% co2 and no matter how often I surface the boat, the level wont reset, and the avatars of teh watch crew never go above deck any more... :(
any ideas?
Still can't do this 8 step thing, they miss completely... I have managed to hit using the 3 numbers and also doing a manual tdc.. I'm not even sure manual tdc will work right when hitting convoys...
before you could work everything out for one and then just fire at others, as long as the depth was all right you'd hit as they were all heading in the same direction at the same speed!

This is a game bug. You must save and re-load to fix.

If you have an UI that shows TDC dials - you will see the TDC auto setting if you follow the steps above.
Do you have trained crew? - there is a torp speed bug if you train up the torp man.

This will still work - AOB will adjsut as you move your scope to new targets, speed will be the same for all ships if they are not on alert.
This leaves you to set new ranges with stadimeter for each target.

I don't have an dials I'm only using vanila.. guess I should just start installing mods.. I'm trying to figure out if I feel the game will be worth the effort!

Nope , again this is my first mission so I want to get the feel for the game before I spend my first 20 crew points

Awesome!!!
Any tips on setting the speed? I notice that my target was sometimes doing 4 knotts sometimes 5, acorrding to the tool tip, but I could not set 4.5 and I could not figure out how to take enough observations for them to calculate the speed?

If you have "Map Contacts On" in the options/realism page you can:-
zoom in on contact and mark map - start stopwatch
pause game on 3mins 15secs and measure distance contact travelled.
900m = 9knots. 1knot for each 100m

The easiest way to have a speed incication is to point your scopes cros at the bow of the ship and measure the seconds it takes to get to the back of the ship.
Then look up the length in meter in the manual and devide the ships lengt to the seconds it took to let it go past.
Multiply that number by 1.856 and you have the speed in knots.
In RL its hard to put some in paus mode :timeout:

Is there a mod that fixes this save and reload bug? every time I submerge and resurface, the game seems to forget to send the watch up, the co2 increases and I'm nto sure the battery recharges?
That kind ruins the game, if mods can't fix that..

This happens when you save your game while submerged. Try ones while running diesels on the surface and most likely it will solve the problem.
