I have read that thread, and I feel that testing browsers using only Microsoft's benchmark by Microsoft is not exactly fair.
So I have decided to test the browsers myself, and the results are posted on my blog:
http://sihanstechblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/what-is-safest-browser-ongoing-tests-in.html

The results are unfortunately inconclusive, and i have only tested 1 attack vector, but i guess its OK for 1 morning's work

So, IE, Firefox, Chrome tested.

What about Opera, Safari, Netscape, SR Iron.....etc......

they will be tested, just not now, doing all this stuff by myself is harder than expected.

It seems like chrome is safe, simply because it does not natively support Java. Therefore, the payload could not run.

[...]

again, looking at the victim, the same thing happened. Java is not natively supported in Firefox.:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

LOL:DL

Maybe you should test it again with java addins installed for both browsers:DL

The safest browsers would be one that you use in your friend's PC because it will only infect his PC. :D

any browser is only as safe as its user.

as long as you take precautions as to the sites you visit and closely guard your information... you should be safe.

one thing you can do is use a gift card or credit card with a super low limit to make online purchases for example.

if someone gets hold of it... big deal. its easy to fight fraudulent charges and its not like they will be able to spend very much.

one thing you DONT want to do is make online purchases with your bank card or a high limit credit card.

fighting that stuff is not likely to earn you a lot of flak from your credit institution - BUT the process can be a long one.

as far as viruses go, be careful about following links, downloading software, and dont visit certain web sites

I use firefox.

my dad uses IE9

i have no viruses

he has tons of viruses trojans and worms he found out the other day.

wouldnt doubt it.

the main thing is that he will open ANY damned attachment any of his friends send him.

EDIT:

they run a bed and breakfast and provide free wifi to guests... i dont know if guest activity has anything to do with it or not.

every computer on their network is affected to some extent or another
