Hey guys, I'm back with another question. I know, I know, you all must be :damn::damn::damn:, but I just have to ask all my dumb questions. It's like, I have to relieve myself of them. It's just unavoidable, lol.

Anyways, on to my question:

I don't use manual targeting... :oops: I am not a mathmatical person...I never have been. But I'm curious to know if it's possible to set torpedo settings in auto targeting. Like speed and impact settings.

I'd like to try some magnetic influence detonations but still have a computer figure out what the hell I'm trying to do, lol.

Thanks in advance Kaleuns! :salute::yeah:

Automagic targeting is way too easy, and the triangle drive me nuts. Manual targeting is way too hard (I keep having people tell me I'll love it once I master it, but I've tried many times and it's just not going to happen).

So here's what I do. I have Manual Targeting on, but also Weapons Officer Assistance. When I look at a target I only get the base information (destroyer, merchant etc). When I clicke on WE Assistance and ask him for information it all comes up. But it doesn't update every second like Auto does. It only updates when I ask. So I ask every minute or so, and he takes care of it. He's too perfect, but I figure if I keep asking it's almost like having the solution get better, and constantly raising the scope heightens the risk of being spotted, which makes up for the ease of the targeting itself.

It's not as real, but it feels real, and for me that's what counts.

Oh, that's right - you asked a question. :D

Just go to the Attack Map (F6) screen. There you can select a tube, select the speed, select the depth, and select the detonator.

The last isn't really realistic. They couldn't flip a switch to change the detonator. They had to manually remove the thing, which took about an hour for each eel.

Hmm, I never thought about that. I may have to give manual with weps officer assistance a try.

Also, I didn't think about the detonator issue...that is strange...flipping a switch. It never occurred to me until you mentioned it. Maybe if you flip the switch you should only use that setting until you load new torps, to simulate which detonation method is installed/removed, and to better immerse yourself...leastways that's what I may do.

I knew about the attack map, but I wasn't sure if automatic targeting would reset my changed settings the minute I went back to the periscope.

Thanks again for all your information. I'll be trying out your suggestion! :yeah:

Also on board a real U-boat the captain wouldn't do all the plotting, he would provide the information about course/speed etc to the weapons officer who would input that into the TDC and give an attack plot.

As far as I know, the magnetic pistols are also set to impact. I tested this about a year ago... lined up 90 AOB impact shots, but with the magnetic pistol set... All went "bang."

Since then, I keep everything set to magnetic unless the water is so choppy that I fear a premature detonation (rare at less than 1000 meters, but if visibility is poor, you won't be even that far out). So when I go into stormy weather, I set a couple of torpedoes to "impact" only, making a mental note to keep them "offline" for an hour while changing them (and back again).

That's correct....two options with the single setting....never figured out how to overcome it.

I just leave them both on until the order comes not to use magnetic pistols. I then never use them until the end of 1943 when the new ones were installed.
