Let the gerrymandering begin.:hmmm: It's interesting to see the demographic shift from high tax states to low tax states.

Sounds like Texas is the big winner in all of this.

We're loosing a seat here in Massachusetts. I suppose it would be too much to hope for that it'll be Barney Franks. :DL

Why shouldn't they count? They live, and they vote.

I wonder how they count that demographic?

Ask Sailor Steve. He seems to know more than the census takers I talked to.

I can't speak for those actually on the streets, but the census bureau contacted the local shelters for info on people living there and the local soup kitchens for guestimates on the same faces etc.

Not 100% accurate by any means, but still a fair estimate.

They're not supposed to be able to vote.

Are you comparing me to an illegal alien? I was born in Texas, raised in California and currently reside in Utah, so you may be right; but most of us are US citizens.

It's that Texas state of mind, I was born there also. But here in Cook Co, Illinois illegal aliens can get drivers licenses and are automatically registered to vote. Even the dead vote here (ACORN registered thousands of the for the last presidential election).

A good point. My objection is to the minimalization of the homeless. Most are US citizens, and some here seem to feel that we should not be included in the census.

Not me. Every American deserves representation.

Every american citizen of age who has not abrogated their right to vote via commission of a crime or who suffers from mental illness sufficient to render them incapable of commiting the act of voting - should be able to vote.

That includes the homeless.

However, without a permanent address, the logistics of them voting is an issue - how is their voting district determined?

Anyone in the country illegally, anyone who has had their right to vote stricken due to criminal action, or those who are declared mentally incompetent, should not be allowed to vote.

How hard is that to comprehend? How is it not reasonable?

I don't know about other states, but here in Utah (or at least the part I live in) you can walk into the Salt Lake County Office building and get a Certificate of Eligibility. You can only vote at the County Office, but they do make it easy.
