Anything I download from SUBSIM causes the game to crash during boot-up loading with the message: "Microsoft has encountered a problem and must shut down". Very frustrating because I REALLY want to run the GWX2 download. Someone please help a newbie.:wah:

:salute: I guess you meant GWX3, you will receive this notice before CTD?, and you've done the right setup, I guess...

Note: What do you use for operating system, and the other spec.in your system? is good to know so that it can "handle SH3 + GWX3"

MS Windows XP HE ver 2002, service pack 3; Pentium{R}4 CPU 3.00GHz, 2GB RAM; NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE/7200 GS. I downloaded and ran a real simple audio mod that required no moving of or creation of new files on my part (the mod placed itself where its supposed to be found automatically) and the same problem occurred.

How did you install SH3 + GWX? Your other spec are in order

SH3 installed via CD-ROM. I have not yet tried to install the download of GWX3 since I am not computer savvy enough move files/folders around...but that is a moot issue since the little audio mod produced the same failure. Incidentally, I get the same error message after loading the CD-ROM version of SEAWOLVES Submarines On The Hunt Expansion Pack for Silent Hunter III that I purchased (which is basically the same as GWX3, no?). I had to do an uninstall and reinstall of SH3 after these failures in order to get the game to load again. I'm really baffled as to why a commercial CD-ROM expansion designed within my system parameters crashes the primary game...which leads me to believe there is nothing wrong with SUBSIMS downloads themselves. This stuff is "beyond my pay grade", as the saying goes.:-?

Just a little heads up, SEAWOLVES is a very touchy subject on the forum. The company that put it out raided the SH3 forums, taking a lot of freeware mods, and put them out on a CD as their own work, without giving the original mod makers any credit for their work.
GWX is by far a much better mod than SEAWOLVES ever could have been.

Thanks for the etiquette reprimand. Sorry, but I bought "that product" before I discovered SUBSIMS. I also own SH4 and Dangerous Waters (although I currently have them uninstalled to free up my undersized hard drive memory capacity) and this site looks like a gold mine for these sims...if I can only find out why my operating system won't run any of the downloads from it without crashing. I have not had this problem with downloads from web sites I visit for my IL-2 1945 and MS Flight Sim X games.

It was not meant as a reprimand, I know you had no idea about the history of SEAWOLVES, I was just letting know about it. Sorry if I offended you.

And which mod exactly is this?

The game has run fine for years. It is only recently that I discovered the multitude of add-ons and mods available. The small mod I chose from subsims is an audio mod entitled "DBSM SH3 Speach Fix" (150.3 KB) and corrects the helmsman from whispering "all ahead slow" when not at silent running. NOTE: I have since upgraded ALL drivers in my system, performed a complete uninstall of SH3 followed by a shutdown/reboot and then a reinstall of SH3...all to no avail. After installing either the subsims mod or seawolves, SH3 crashes during initializing with message "SH3 has encountered a problem and must close. We are sorry for any inconvenience..." blah, blah, blah. SH3 runs fine by itself after being uninstalled/reinstalled again.

Thank you very much for assistance, guys!

Can you confirm that the game is patched to the latest patch, i think if it was me i would do a clean install, patch to the latest patch, run the GWX 3 installer and see if the game will run, if you go this route, don't forget to delete the old SH3 folder (C:-Program Files-UBISOFT), BEFORE the fresh install.
The latest patch is the 1.4b, but you will need to install the other patches first.

Before reading your post, I did the following: Uninstalled SH3. Reinstalled SH3. Installed patch v. 1.4b (but not any of the previous patches). Downloaded all the GWX3 files and ran the exe. file...BINGO!!! Got the shortcut icons on the desktop for pdf manual, mods and SH3GWX3.0. Launched the game and.......SUCCESS!!! Now, question: Do I need to go back and repeat the process except to individually install all patches (v. 1.0-v.1.4b) in numerical sequence for game to run properly? NOTE: This whole process has been worth the effort if for no other reason than to increase my meager computer skills. To all of you bubble-heads who have so kindly offered advice, I salute you and say THANKS. GMA:yeah:

No need for any further patches because 1.4b was the final one and is cumulative.

Any further problems just holler http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

I'm a long time SH3 but first time gwx3.0. I am unable to get it to install. I have uninstalled/reinstalled and have deleted every folder I could find. But during installation of 3.0 it says Modded files detected. I never even modded the game. Also, I have the correct version 1.4b. I downloaded the game from Steam. I'm stumped. :hmmm:
