Disc or no Disc

Ahoy everyone.
I found a puzzling quirk here and I don't know if it's intentional or accident.
I was playing last night and I noticed the SH4 disc was lying next to my telly.
The game appeared to be playing fine. This game would not do this before 1.4.
Question; Is the game supposed to be played with the disc in, or out?? I have several other games that run of the hard drive alone, so I was wondering if SH4 runs better off the hard drive alone or if it needs both to run correctly.

One of the patches that was released removed the requirement of having the disc in to play. I don't remember if it was 1.3 or 1.4, though. The game runs just fine without the disc in.

I prefer it, because now I can leave the disc in the box and not have to worry about it unless I need to reinstall, which only happens if I have to format the hard drive. My SH3 disc, however, is pretty much permanently stored in one of the drives on my computer.

Disc out. Your PC will be able to read off of your HD faster than it could off a CD.

Definitely OUT. SH3 and SH4 both originally required the disc to run. As said, one of the patches for both removed that need. All newer copies come fully patched (especially SH4 Gold, with U-boats add-on) and run without the disc.

This is great, 'cause it's less wear and tear on my computer and as was mentioned, it should run smoother without the CD in. Excellent!
