Anybody ever been there?

http://www.usscod.org/

It's like 15 minutes, including parking, from my house, grew up here, and I've never gone!

Is it worth the trip?

Reading the site, it looks like it's free, so no reason not to go next summer!

It'd be awesome if they get the engines working, be nice to see it sail in our annual tall ships parade!

EDIT: $7 to get in, not bad though.

I didn't know about that boat.

In fact check out the other ship links on their webpage:

If it was fifteen minutes from my house I'd see no reason not to go today!

Steve's right.

Get there. If it's only fifteen minutes away, you totally owe it to yourself to spend as much time there as possible. Speaking as a former museum employee, there's nothing more awesome than spending time with something you love, soaking up that ambiance (or is that stale diesel?).

You just never know who'll you find on these boats, and the stories they'll tell you will blow your mind.

I'm grateful that I met the guys in the TVA in Baltimore, and that they've always been so generous with their time and experience - and none of that would have been possible if I hadn't just gone down there one day and listened.

Fifteen minutes and free?

I'd go at least once a month! Probably more.

LOL, yeah, probably not - that whole "National Register of Historic Sites" issue could be bad for you in this case.

Absolutely GO!

The restoration of the Cod is a original blueprint restoration (unlike other museum subs).

It is a treat to see the faithful original as issued restored setup as opposed to a setup for the convenience of visitors.

May well be John but not too sure as ttraveler also resurrected the Clamagore thread.

What kind of question is that? Motion to change Gargamel's avatar to One night in Bangkok until he goes and post picture of the trip.

Seconded. But as it was 3 years or so ago I reckon he's forgotten about it.

Thanks for noticing. My reasons are in post #15 in the Clamagore thread.

One of my main ports of call is Cleveland so I know the Cod and the good condition the Cod is in. I just thought that all the other historical museum ships were being taken care of for all to see. When people see the USS Cod cap I wear and ask questions about the Cod, they are surprised to know that the Cod is all as issued original with many things working.

I just went on the cruise of the USS American Victory last week. To be on a fully functioning WWII ship today while underway is a delight, exhilarating. One day the Cod will sail under her own power.

Absolutely no problem but yes, I did notice.
