Title pretty much says it all. Can I surrender to allied fleet units at sea or in harbor after the surrender is signed, or will I still be killed?

In SHII the answer is no, you will be shot... there is no "White flag" key..
But im pretty sure in the game "Aces Of The Deep", when you was captured, they put you in a POW-camp in England, 3 month later, you escaped, made home, and return in duty...

After the surrender is signed? I believe that after May 7th '45, Allied units become neutral and you can sail on into their ports to simulate a surrender.
iirc in the stock version there are certain situations where you are given the option to surrender. If you were close to or being attacked by an enemy Navy ship (not an armed merchant) if you hit esc you were given the option to surrender; which is the same as dying - it ends your career.

Can you hit Esc to surrender in GWX too? I don't remember seeing this, but it might not be a bad option if things go bad.

If you're using SH3 Commander you can go into your captain's profile and mark him as captured if you were destroyed on the surface.

I'm afraid not.
