Forgive my stupidity on this; but I've got to know.
How do I find out more accurately what my position within a grid square is? Below is a screen shot of my current position NE of the Dover Strait.
SCREEN ShOT TAKEN AWAY
When I zoom in I get progressively smaller squares; but no markings on them to indicate a tighter grid coordinate. Telling someone I'm in grid AN82 still gives ya a lot of ocean to look in.

The game doesn't break the grid squares down any farther than the 4-character designation, no matter how close you zoom in.
You can guess-timate a more accurate position using the RL Kriegsmarine grid system (http://www.uboat.net/maps/grid.html), but that's about it.

If you're using GWX, the pull down grid chart in the upper left corner of the Nav Map screen has a little sub-grid map in the lower right corner. I scale the game map to match that one as closely as I can, and it's fairly easy to figure it out by looking at the two. I put 4-digit coordinates in all my patrol reports.
You are very close to the four corners of AN82-53, 56, 61 and 64.

Are you talking about the map with the convoy routes on them?

Yep, that's the one. Lower right-hand corner, a little chart showing how the secondary grids are numbered.

Got it!
Gonna print it out on transparency film so I can use it on the fly.

I used to have one I would hold up to the screen. These days I pull down the map, resize the Nav Map until it's the same height as the one on the pull-down, and do as close an approximation as I can. I file a position report at the same time every day, with location, course, speed and weather conditions.

I did a screen capture so I have the grid I'm looking for then just went into MS Paint and drew a box then drew lines within it to divide it up.
I can superimpose it over the map from the screen capture then make it transparent. Gets me pretty close.
I think you will find after awhile that you can guess it fairly close by eye without using any reference materials.

True; but for now I'm a babe in the woods...metaphorically speaking of course.

I would hope that no one has ever, in its long history, meant that phrase other than metaphorically. :D
