different carrears, but what do you do? Thought it may be a glitch on my disc.
Change the grid with SH3 commander. Or (its located on dry land right?) go as close as you can to the grid and man the deck gun!
That commonly happens, use SHC to change it or just ignore it and go somewhere else. Unless you get assigned a high traffiic shipping lane as your patrol area its generally not worth the waste of fuel to do the patrol (especially since it doesn't get you anything).

Unless you have edited your files (basic.cfg yes?) to reward renown for hitting your assigned grid.
For realism sake, boats were assigned specific grids for reasons, I try to fulfill my orders, then go hunting.

The gfrids are selected randomly and can repeat on occasion...there is nothing wrong with your disc.

I would have to send stermtrops in a rubber boat, and they would have to catch a train inland. I usually just go to gibralter and tag a warship or two to get some medals for my boys. Not worry about mission renown by that stage of the war.

I was once ordered to patrol Washington, DC. That was amusing.

Fuel is certainly not a scarce resource. You can do a remote patrol area for a month and still get to happy hunting grounds to use your torps and still get home on a half tank.

The grid orders are not my priority, but the course that I plot to the grid is thru the high traffic areas. Sometimes, I have expended all the tin fish and 88 ammo, before reaching the grid. I will try to continue to the mission, just to get the required patrol time. It entirely depends on which area my orders are, as to how I will get there. If its AK AL or AM in winter, I will hunt on the way up. Most likely you will have bad weather at the grid, so I try to use the gun as much as I can early in the trip. Generally I patroll south of Irland going and comming back, anytime during the war. After 43 your flak guys better be well qualified. I usually give those guys all the medals and promotions early, so when its time to use them they have plenty renoun and such. If Im out of weapons and the wether is bad I'll abandon the patroll and go spend my renoun, at shore, like a drunk sailor on champagne and French girls Except Ill blow it on cool stuff for the boat, like radar and upgrades
