Had a very odd experience last night. September 1941, patrolling down the Portuguese coast, and I spotted a Japanese Large Merchant:

(Hope you can see that, I realise it's very dark)

I'm running GWX3.0, SH3Cmmdr and SH3Gen. I guess it's possible that I have a bug, but maybe there is a legitimate reason for a Japanese merchant to be in the Atlantic? Delivering something to German bases in France?

Positive - I nearly sunk one in the Bay of Biscay in summer 1940. They were not at war these days and they probably delivered some Toyota parts to Wilhelmshaven.

Wow, that's a long and dangerous trip for an unescorted Japanese merchant.
Thanks for the confirmation :salute:

Well, as said Japan was not at war in 1940, there was no need to be escorted.

You may want to search the web for 'Yanagi missions'.

The date of the pic above must be wrong - I-8 arrived in Brest on 8/31/1943.

(can't edit my post - sorry)

I also came across a Japanese merchant. I was in the South Atlantic.
