Figured it might not be a bad idea to have a dedicated general GT5 thread rather than using the news thread, and that post I made about the trailer ages ago lol.

And what better time too! Has anybody noticed the wonderful new patch, which not only adds mechanical damage but actually FIXED THE SHADOWS!!!! Somewhat anyway, they still aren't perfect but the AA is miles better than it was :D Kudos to Polyphony for listening to us and getting it done quckly :salute:

1.03 took like 10 minutes to load on the main menu, so I was worried that it broke the game, but then it went through and worked normally.

Gawd typing wasted is a pain in the ass. Maybe I should try racing like this.

I got the game on release day and was doing fine then my old fat 80Gb PS3 died on me.
That meant it was a trip of the shop to buy a new 320Gb slim PS3.
After that i was not only £280 pounds worse off I also had to start the game again from the beginning.
Now after a full week of playing for a few hours im sort of back to where i was.

So where is everyone else at in game?

Im level 15 A spec and level 6 B Spec

PSN treblein99 feel free to add me.

ajrimmer42

nearly 15 A-Spec, 2 B-Spec :D, Licenses A, B, IC, IB, IA. Finished quite a bit of the challenges too :)

danlisa

19 A-Spec & 8 B-Spec.

Really pushing for lvl 20 and should get it tonight, I want those endurance races.

Have you unlocked the 2nd Top Gear Test Track challenge yet?

That Elise race is dastardly hard. :damn:

12-13-10, 04:24 AM
Have always HATED driving the Elise in previous versions.

Found my copy of GT5 in the mailbox tonight. Just had a quick couple of laps and reached Level A1 in my used Toyota MR-S.

Actually quite a spirited little car.

Looking after the wifes parents at the moment, so any faint hope I have of playing has gone out the window for the next few weeks. :wah:

Even a shorter break has its consequences, I got problems with high powered RWD cars again.

The transition from GT5 to rFactor isn't as bad as it was with GT4 to rFactor.

Like the Lambo races by any chance?

If your RWD cars are spinning out under braking and acceleration, firstly change the Brake Bias to 4 front & 7 rear, then take a look at the LSD settings and adjust to suit your driving style. ;)

I initially, crapped myself when I first took the Lambo Gallardo for a spin.:D A little tweak here and there and she now power slides nicely.

Brake bias to rear? :o

I've always had brake bias to the front in sims.

I always forget to change the bias in GT5 though.

Brake bias to the rear has a risk to lock the rear brakes, much worse than the fronts locking up. :dead:

If the fronts lock up you go straight, and if the rears lock. You'll spin off, unless you react quick enough. :)

Unlocked it, tried it, failed it :D It is damn hard. Then again I struggled with the first Top Gear challenge too :p

danlisa
12-13-10, 05:43 AM
@ Lionclaw

Just try it, especially on the Gallardo. ;)

With 5:5 settings the rear end would always spin out under braking (even in a straight line). Putting the rear bias tames the rear end enough to stabilise the whole car. You still have to be careful if you brake late and are still braking when turning but it makes the Gallardo less twitchy.

Ah the VW bus.:dead: Insanely boring and difficult. Did manage to Gold that one though. After many efforts, it comes down to luck. The only way to even be in with a chance is by drafting the entire field but even then it falls to the position of 2nd & 3rd places to give you the jump for 1st.

Still haven't passed the Elise challenge.:shifty: It's probably the hardest special event in the entire game. Even Nuremburg in the rain is easier.

Have only done one licence so far the National B got gold on all of them but.
Fark me B6 and 7 were so hard to gold. Might be that i am using a DS3 and not a wheel.

Does anyone have a Pick up i could borrow to do the Pick up races with on the Amateur races?
If you want anything to loan in return just let me know.

Haven't had time to play lately.

Mostly because I haven't moved my Ps3 over to my new room yet.

But I find the Nascar challenges, and the cars to be a pain in the ass to drive, at least on a controller.

Mostly I just keep replaying the A-spec tournaments to a mass a small fortune. Just recently bought a 2010 Mustang V8, working on getting it tuned up.

Had a bash at the GT Rally challenges last night.
Passed the Beginner challenges with Gold. But the Intimidate challenges are proving a lot tougher though. Just need to find the right car and set-up.

So what Special Challenges has everyone done?

I have completed the Go-Karting with gold
Got gold on the Samba Bus on the Top Gear challenges but have not even tried the Lotus challenge.
Other than that i have just got sliver on all the beginner challenges on the Ring.
Got to say though you get lots of Cr and XP for doing the Special challenges.

Woohooo.
This game just gets better and better.
The support this game has had since release has been great, many other developers could learn a thing from PD. Long may the up dates continue to come and be as good.

Oh Dan am only half a million Cr and 2 levels, away from getting the Formula GT.
As it is in the new rare car dealership for 4.8m
Was going to say if i get the Formula GT first i can send it over to you when im finished with the races.
Saves you splashing out the cash if you don't have too.

Can send it whenever, only the sender needs to be online (naturally). It will just sit in your Gift tray until you claim it, same with GT5 Mail.

BTW, in case you were unaware, http://www.gran-turismo.com/ now supports PSN ID sign in. You can preview gifts, send mail and track your friends from here. Look for GT5 My Home in the top right corner after the location selection.

I guess Chris and I will post here again after one of us send it. Don't want 2 Lupos, do ya?

My fault mate,
When i went to receive it I pressed the wrong tab and it ended up in my Items menu.
Could not open it from there or move it. The only options the game gave me were to delete it or send it to a friend.
So i thought the best thing to do was to send it back.
Sorry for using up a gift card for nowt.

Oh on a side note.
Great Christmas presents here.
Got a Driving force GT wheel and F1 2010. :DL

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/MTG-ThreadNecromancer_3198.jpg

I'm sorry for the necromancy, but something just happened to me on GT5 that I HAD to share with everybody for the sake of good laughs.

So, there I was, trying to finish a race quickly before the wife got back home. It was B-Spec, Nurburgring 4 hour endurance.

I sat in front of the tv to mess around with my bob (generic name for your b-spec driver), just to have some fun, while I was driving a Formula GT car (like a F1 car), the other racers were driving stupid 300hp turismo cars, hiihhi... Then I noticed my driver wanted to pit for fuel. I looked at the fuel and said, "nah, you have enough for 1 more lap". Bah... I forgot that we're talking about the HUGE 25km long Nordschleiffe track. No figure, after 2 min into a 7 min lap, I ran out of fuel. The game is nice enough to put you at a low speed till you can pit again, but damn... that means 80km/h for the whole 25km track!

... I was watching while everybody passed me by, with stupid cars at 250km/h while I was looking like a turtle.

The lap was 23 minutes long. ONE lap.

But it gets worse. During the lap, I thought "lets bug bob", and I pressed X twice, which normally means radio command -> increase pace, as I always leave the cursor over "increase pace" button. But I had forgot that my last command for him was "cancel pit stop".

Yes... you're probably laughing by now.

I canceled the pit stop for the next lap, and I had to do 2 complete laps in the 25km long track at 80km/h.

:damn:

Due to a YLOD on my PS3 Phat, I went out and bought a new slim, but had to start from scratch.

Picked up a cheap Alpine (A-330? the later model with the hatchback look). Put in a few power mods and took it for a spin............. or, maybe a roll would be more appropriate. Brake into a corner, and as you try and power out, the car stands on 2 side wheels and does a burnout, or completely rolls over if you push it. Twisty tracks are a nightmare with this thing. :haha:

Managed to pick up most of the classic American muscle cars from the online dealer. :yeah:

Only just realised that there are some easy caps to be made in the seasonal races. All this time I've been grinding in A-spec............. moron. :shifty:

Got my Phat re-balled, but still sitting on CFW.

ajrimmer42

yeah I only just started playing the Seasonal stuff, averages like 450k for a 5 lap race :D awesomez!

Mid race saves for endurance races will be great.

I just did the first 2 hour race (60 laps) last night, and I lost count of the times I fell alseep at the wheel. Still won by 6 laps in the end.

Was dreading the 24Hr series.

EDIT - Support for the G25!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOO.

Now to choose a cockpit......

Herr-Berbunch

Mid-race save feature for endurance races.

That, I think, will be the biggest and most welcome change - at least for me. The reason I've not yet done any endurance races is because I can't commit to x-amount of hours of continuous gameplay, nor do I want to leave my 40GB Fat paused for extended periods! :yeah:

danlisa
10-06-11, 08:04 AM
Settings sheet which allows you to save multiple car settings.

For me, that's the biggest plus in Spec 2.0. At the very least it allows me to maintain a setting for offline play and a setting for online play, where the setups and physics are different.

Just FYI, these are only the items Kaz saw fit to tell us, there'll be more hidden away in the update.

Although I'm still waiting on working and accurate fuel gauges in the cockpits.:x

That'll only bother me once I start doing the endurance races! :03:

LOL, true. I do the Suzuka Endurance (approx 7 hours) for fun quite often, there's no better event in the game.

Start with comparable car to AI, start on dry track, then it begins to rain, then fully wet track and finally finishing on a dry track. All this done from the cockpit with all HUD items off (<- Try that in the rain).

From repetition, I know I can go 15 laps on Tyres, no more than 25 laps on fuel while putting in 1:58sec laps.

The experience would be so much better with a fuel gauge. I can judge when my tyres are degraded but even with my skill :smug: I can't tell when I'm running on fumes.

I quite welcome the 'Mid-Race' saving though. I fully intended to do the 24hr A-Spec events before this patch, just like I did on GT4, but my free time isn't so free anymore. Gone are the days I could game for 24hrs straight. :wah:

Spec 2.0 is out and DLC info...It's a big one. 1192mb total.

Major Changes and New Features

- Standard Cars now given simplified cockpit views
The over 800 standard cars included in the game are now given simplified cockpit views. You can change your view using the SELECT button when racing, to change your display to the exciting cockpit view.

A new opening movie is now available from Gran Turismo TV. When you download this movie, it will replace the current opening movie. The previous version will be viewable within Gran Turismo TV.

- Addition of the weather change menu

- Multiple car settings/save feature
We've added a setting sheet feature that allows you to save multiple car settings.

Downloading now :D Slightly disappointed by the DLC though, doesn't quite excite me enough to buy it unfortunately.

LOL, I've just had this chat with others on a different forum.

For $11.99 or £9.99 (for me)

We get:
2 new tracks with 5 variants. The new Kart track looks greats and, well, Spa is Spa (with weather change).

15 'New' cars. Which ever way you cut this, they are new because you can't get them in game.

90 Gear items. Which includes 8 full real life suits, 3 variants of the Stigs suit and the awesome looking GT Official Helmet.

100 New Paint Chips (wonder if you can buy this multiple times)

To me this, coupled with the 'free' DLC we've already been given as rewards from seasonal events, is a bargain pack that I will be buying in full, hell, I would have paid £10 just for Spa. ;)

Damn, that Red Bull x2010 is a handfull. 460kph down the Tokyo straight just blows the opposition away. :D

Load times for championship events are great now. Tracks take a few seconds, and cars only need to load up for the first race.

That x2010 is bloody insane. I tried to take it round the Top Gear Test Track. Emphasis on 'tried' :haha:

Personally can't stand the car but I recognise it's design awesomeness. If you're using a wheel, turn everything off except ABS = 1 and turn the Steering Sensitivity to Max.

I did the X1 seasonal event and golded it on my out lap, netting 5 Million credits. Noice.

There's a 2011 X1 coming in the DLC packs, who knows what that's going to drive like. Be fun trying.

Yeah I'm not too keen on it myself. Might have to try the Seasonal though.

On a side note PSN is down again. It seems that a list of IDs and Passwords have been acquired from an outside source and have been scanned against Sony's database for matches. Apparently this has affected 0.1% of users, I've just tried logging in and it says that my password is wrong. Anyone else getting that? Just wondering if I'm one of the 0.1% who's had their account locked lol. Luckily there's no important details in there.

PSN is still up. Just tested using some web portals.

If you are affected by the recent attempts to use people accounts, some 93000 IDs, Sony have sent you an email to the address registered to your PSN ID detailing how you can recover/change your password.

Yeah I just checked on the website and it says it's on, but I still can't log in either on my PS3 or through the site, unless I'm getting my own PW wrong lol, but when I click 'Forgot Password' I get an under maintenance notice. And I've had no email. I'll try again in a bit.

I have some contacts of SCEE Staff who may be able to help. I could tap them up if you wish. Although I suspect they will suggest you just ring the Support Line: 0844 736 0595

The 'Forgotten Password' site has been down since the initial hacking event. SCE can't secure it enough for their liking so, they just leave it as a 404.

Yep, they're all premium models, although some might argue that they are actually only Racing Mods, still more cars is a good thing.

Here they are (the Lancer and Impreza look bad ass):

woohoo, just had the email saying my account was in fact one of the 0.1% that that arsehole tried to hack into. I feel special :) Unfortunately I'm still going to have ring them up as it apparently can't validate my email or DOB to reset my PW. Should be fun...

We are writing to let you know that we have detected an unauthorized attempt to verify the validity of your Sony Entertainment Network or PlayStation Network ("Networks") account sign-in ID and password. We believe there was an attempt to use a scripted application of a large set of sign-in IDs and passwords against our network database. This attempt appears to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised ID and password lists obtained from other companies, sites or other sources. We estimate that the number of sign-in ID and password matches from this attempt is less than one tenth of one percent of the Sony Entertainment Network and PlayStation Network accounts. Your sign-in credentials were among those matched, and to protect you, we have locked your account. To unlock your account, you must reset the password in order to continue using PSN/SEN services.

EDIT: Oh dear, after a chat with a very nice girl at SEN it turns out I put my DOB in wrong when I registered. I lied and said i was 18 when I was 17 lol. All's good now :D

Be glad that you did. If you didn't you would be stuck with a Sub-Account (complete with auto age restriction on all content), that can't be upgraded to a Master Account. You dodged a bullet there. ;)

I'll add my two-penneth now! Blimey that Red Bull x2010 is an insane handful! It's all under braking when it goes wrong for me :nope:, either I need to brake earlier and coast through corners or just not brake. Ever! :o

How somebody got round Suzuka (Seasonal Event) in 1:03 I'll never know! Quickest I did during an hour of play last night was 1.16 - and that was disallowed!

Adjust the brake balance on the X1. Set to max 3 Front & 1 Rear (if you use the DFGT, these can be adjusted while driving on track).

Then, when you absolutely have to brake, only apply half brake at most. The car has insane acceleration but it stops a whole lot faster and if you are heavy footed on the brakes, the wheels will just lock up and you'll spin.

On Suzuka, there are only 6 or 7 corners where the Brake pedal is actually needed with the X1, the rest of the corners can be navigated by lifting off and throttle control, regardless of what the handy blue driving line says.

From memory here's the corners which require braking:

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s64/danlisa_photo/suzuka.jpg

As for people getting a 1:03sec lap time, Suzuka is a glitched track. You can get underneath the circuit and cross the start/finish line at your leisure. ;)

...if you use the DFGT...

I wish! I hadn't looked for a while and the prices have come down a lot since launch, but still too much for my meagre income (i.e. what the wife gives me after payday).

Did not know that, a quick look on youtube and there's quite a few glitches it would seem! I'll stick to driving properly (!), for now. :D

Thanks for the tips. :yeah:

OH LOL, I know that feeling.

However, in the instance of me owning a DFGT, I just went and bought it. The fallout was massive but what's a few days of the 'dog house' compared to months of awesome racing. :haha:

*I do not condone these actions and suggest that my wife may be more forgiving than others*

Edit - I swear there was a post from ajrimmer42 up there. :|

That X1 is INSANE!!!

My troubles aren't in the breaking its in the turning. It's sooooo agile! I can't keep it on the tracks in the turns.
