I want acoustic torps in '41

Howdy All,

I have been playing with different cfg's trying this-and-that. It has been fun to step away from the realism for a bit.

I have tried to make the type V acoustic torps available by changing the respective availability dates in the data/basic.cfg file. It is not working.

I have read through numerous postings here at this awesome site, but I haven't really found anything that helps.

Have any of you tried or had success making these torps available?
If so, how did you do it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do the same in every year and every sub type you want and save.
If you you use SH3 commander copy the file basic.cfg there as well.
In my example when you launch a career with an IXB in 1939 you will have two TXIs on board with no renown cost.
Good luck.
Don't forget to back up the original file in case something goes wrong.

I did change the dates on the proto-year and month.

I made the proto-years 1 year less than the year and all the months I made "1".

Thanks Vonharris, I will try this all tonight when I get back home.

I am new to tweaking settings, and I learned "painfully" about making a .bak file first.

I welcome your continued support and will keep all advised to my progress.

I changed:

[TORPEDO_TYPE9];T XI (G7es) and made the year
idx=9
Year=1939 then I made the
Month=11 because I'm not sure if the proto-month should be earlier than the month of release.
PrototypeYear=1939 then
PrototypeMonth=7 how clever i am to switch the month and protomonth dates........but it has not worked.

I don't have this torp as an option at the loadout screen.

I DO HAVE the torp loaded in the tube of my choosing. That works well, and I have the option now.

But...it would be nice to have that killer rack of fish to choose from.

Whooo... subs are boats.

I once, in my Seaman Apprentice days, asked a former COB of the USS Ethan Allen what is was like to serve on such a "ship." He glared and said "Submarines are boats. Not ships. And boats are boats. And ships are targets."

I didn't have the guts to point that the Allen was a ballistic missile platform and, so, unlikely to target ships.

But I did learn that if you think a sub is not a boat, submariners get real in your face.
